i've been kicking around the idea of giving up the taco for a frontier, the fact that i cant haul anything in the bed other than a couple grocery bags before the springs bottom out and other things are leading me to try something different, i really wanted a 6mt truck when i bought my truck but went with the auto, AGAIN because of the problems with the tacoma's throw out bearing issue, i like the truck but i've been considering a different option and nissan is doing 1.9% intrest on frontiers right now

so, anyone have any dirt on the frontier? i dont wanna run into the same problems i am now, my plans for the truck will be a small lift, wheels tires, and probably a winch plate bumper

after talking to the dealer i can get the regular base SV 4x4 V6 6MT with a locking rear diff, no sense in going with a pro4x and pay all of that extra $$ for shock's i'll probably just replace and some extra skid plates

I look at it this way. Tacomas may have a few problems, but they are well known and there are awesome communities out there to help you. From what I've seen of the frontier forums, they don't come close. Every vehicle has issues, but I dont see a Nissan being more reliable than a Toyota.

ATO front skid (need more but icon's might fail if I hang anything else from my truck) All-Pro front bumper thanks to a good deal here and a pesky encounter with a rock or 20, total chaos uppers.
I belive some of the nissans had transmission issues. All I know is my old pathfinder was the most reliable vechical I ever owned! I would say search a Nissan forum and see what you find. I know Toyota has way more aftermarket options.
Good luck with what ever you decide.
Also I can relate to the front end issue. If mine goes out again I'll be shoping for another truck. I really like the new f 150s but not sure I want another ford.

Take this for what it's worth but I've owned both the SUV version of the Frontier and Tacoma. I loved my Xterra but as far as fit and finish go my 4Runner is awesome. Also, not sure if this matters to you or not, but I noticed more road noise in my XTerra. However I never had a problem with either car. Nissan makes a good product. I looked at both a new XTerra's and Frontiers before getting my 4Runner. However, out of all of the car forums that I have been on the Tacoma community is by far the best. Have you considered looking at trading on a Certified Pre-Owned Tacoma with the 6MT? Then you could just swap all of your parts over.

Best of luck to you as you search for your new ride!

I have never seen 0% financing on a Tacoma in my region but I probably wouldn't buy a Frontier unless it was 0% financing.

At 1.9% I could almost get a pro4x foe what I'm paying for my truck now, almost.... it'd still be a little more expensive but a 6 yr newer truck, I go back and fourth between the pro4x and the standard SV, pro4x, throw wheels on it and leave it at that or SV and lift ect, idk hell I really don't even know if I'm gonna go thru with it or not, just kickin tires right now

Or you could just get a set of Dakar leafs for $300 and call it good? Why waste all that money on a new truck? :notsure:

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
There is a TSB for heavier duty shocks...will be doing it to mine before the warranty is up!

I had a Pro4X I liked it, the stereo was nice and I liked the sunroof as well, just had to remember to put sunscreen on or I'd burn my head. I ended up trading down a year and for a tacoma with more miles because I was worried about the transmission/antifreeze contamination issue that destroys trannies. I was also worried that my front diff that was forged aluminum would grenade if I did any moderate wheeling and let me tell you I have never been happier! Yes there is no subwoofer or Bluetooth or sunroof but I have seats that are more comfortable, a truck I know will have a better resale value, it has a broader aftermarket community. It doesn't sound like the doors are made of tin and it looks better and gets better gas mileage while having a bigger towing capacity. That being said..... To each their own.

This. I did it, and have no problems with load now. I also did a 3" lift which added even moar leafs...

If you're not happy with your truck and think there's greener pastures, by all means... I just don't think the Frontier is a better truck.

Nissan does make great vehicles tho, my '96 Maxima is still going strong.

Nissan makes a quality vehicle, right up there with Toyota IMO. My Dad has an Xterra with the same 4.0 VQ that's in the Frontier, and I think its a stronger motor than my Tacoma. Just from the seat of the pants feel and his car will tow loads no problem that make my truck strain and hunt for gears like crazy. I personally like the style of the Tacoma better, especially inside, and I think the fit and finish are a bit better. I think reliability is really equal.

My dad owns an 05 Frontier v6 AT, overall truck is great. Its faster and feels stronger and sounds meaner (stock) than my wife's Tacoma Sport v6 also (stock).

yeah i'm out of warranty for a rear TSB and i to like the looks of the taco better, after doing the math, if i can get a pro4x @ 0%int the payments will only be about $30/mo more for a 6 year newer truck...
