    They are .

I would say technically you are right , but as the atmosphere basically thins out until it merges with the vacuum of space the thickness is not an absolute value .

Having conceded the symantics , my point that the Earth's atmosphere is a thin veil over us is still valid , 62 miles or 300 miles , it still pales in comparison to the size of the Earth

The 62 miles you gave as an answer, is an arbitrary number given by some French dude that had no clue. It happened to stick......Anywho...As it is, Humans arent as influential on the climate as you and others would like to belive. If you lit a match in your living room, and let it burn 10 seconds....How much do you think it would raise the temp?

The issue is not only the capture of man made gasses , but many human related activities such as deforestation , which reduces the Eath's ability to absorb some of the crap we pump out .

I've not read through all these pages, but global warming is total bullshit! We KNOW there have been multiple ice ages, way before Henry Ford made autos. It's all brought to you by the same people that brought you Y2K. Mark Twain summed this up years ago: "If you don't read the news, (was before TV, but the same still applies) you are uninformed, if you do read the news, you're misinformed."

You mean man made global warming I presume , because obviously we would have had to have global warming to come out of the ice ages you mentioned .

That's my point. There is nothing on this earth that's not from this earth. A tad off subject, but not either. The BP oil spill, terrible, terrible thing, all the doomsday know it alls we declaring the end of the gulf as we know it. Yes there was a great deal of clean up from a ton of folks. Seafood, gone, wildlife gone, blah blah blah. This was a great year for seafood harvest/tourism etc. These 24hr news channels have to fill there time slots with doom and gloom, that's what's sales.

no one ever proposed the notion that humans where completely to blame for the shifting climate or the cycles it goes through but, we are absolutely not helping things at all.

we are speeding things up and throwing off what many believe to be a natural balance polar ice has been melting considerably faster in the last 20 or so years how do you not see the correlation between the two:confused:

i also find it to be completely silly that it's not even on the table for discussion lol it's either people seem to agree with it or it's complete bull shit.

i for one believe that we do contribute as a world population to climate change but, i cannot say it with any real certainty because i do not have my phd in the subject and i venture to say none of us do? i just find it funny that with no real knowledge or training regarding the subject at hand most don't listen to the few that do.

lol are you shitting me:confused: the oil spill while not end of the world completely screwed things up in the gulf and they will be feling the effects of that shit for years to come.

and yes everything is of this planet  but, when you mine it refine it and burn it you change it's chemical composition completely and basically denature it to be either toxic not only to us but to the surrounding environment. you don't need to be steven hawking to figure that one out. sure oil is fine 800 feet below the seas surface but when you drill it up and then spill it over the gulf it's a whole different story wildlife fish and basically anything near it is now swimming in a toxic stew.

There are more scientist that don't believe than do. They claim a single eruption of a volcano spews more poisonous gasses than all man made pollution combined. They've (volcanos) been around for some time.
