So I passed this guy in a Honda...

i've been thinking alot about this since the incident happened, and i've read every single one of the responses here.

i'm a middle aged guy with a family, i have a lot to lose. it isn't worth it to me to get in an incident or an accident, much less lose my life, to some immature road rage idiot with a big ego or a pea sized brain. i mean, i just want to get home to my family and be left alone.

it's hard to predict what unstable people will do, or even identify them beforehand, that's the problem. i'd LOVE to spray some tailgating fukk knuckle's windshield with oil, or blind him with bed lights, but like alot of people have said, this may just elevate the situation to the next level, someplace maybe i'd rather not go.

although i do own a .40, i'm not allowed to carry it here in the neo-nazi regime that is called New York State. they'd rather only the criminals carry guns while the law abiding citizens just live in fear, unable to protect themselves. there is a provision allowing you to carry it in your car if you are on the way to a shooting range however. maybe i should just plan on going to the range, say, every day from now on. hrmmm.

 

When i get an offroad bumper i'm wiring in rear back up lights, Bright lights, that i can turn on with a switch. i hate tailgaters

 

I can carry mine whenever I want.
Not in schools, post office and places like that. I'm pretty sure bank is on that list too.

Coming from someone who lives in NY near Cuse and has a concealed carry permit.

 

The problem w/the bed lights, oil in the tank and the cycle riders with broken spark plugs is that in most situations this comes down to aggravated road rage and YOU will be the one getting piched or worse if the vehicle behind you crashes or is involved w/another vehicle.....or choses to press charges.

I know it's aggravating but the best thing to do is keep your distance and let the asshole go along....

The cost benefit analysis of putting these types of people in their place certainly leans toward letting cooler heads prevail. We work hard for what we have and there is no sense in giving some moron the chance to ruin it, and he is unlikely to learn anyway. Just take solace in the thought that the rest of his dealings in life are, likely, just as terrible as his driving/attitude. As for carrying, I am a believer in it. While the security is the main benefit, I found that when I do carry, I am much more level headed as a result of the responsibility and potential fallout of escalating a situation to that level as opposed to taking more risk because of a perceived "safety net."

 

A box of marble size rocks mounted on top of the spare tire & a button on the dash to release them one at a time or continuously works wonders.

 

Join a club that has a 24 hour range, that's what a lot of guys do until they get their unrestricted

 

Every permit in NY is consealed carry. You cannot open carry in NY at all. You mean unrestricted

 

I couldn't even count how many times this has happened to me. It's highly annoying and if you would just keep maintaining your speed I wouldn't have try to pass you. The sad part is there are some crazies out there. Just the other day on the news I heard someone got shot from road rage. Is it really worth that? I don't want to die over a passing car...

Jackhart is right, it's that flash of rage that can lead you to make a bad/regrettable decision, personally, my biggest pet peeve is cell phone idiots and unsafe/cutting me off lane changes, i will from time to time throw subtle blocks and lock assholes in other lanes. I had a little Honda actually brake check me the other day, so when i passed her i actually had my left side tires in her lane next to her car as i went by. If things look like they're gonna get really crazy or i can see that this moron is willing to put innocent people's lives at risk by his behavior, i always back down.

 

I had a situation about a month ago that this thread dredged up out of my unhappy memory file...

I was driving home at about 9 pm ( very little traffic at this time) and got on to the farthest right hand lane on a 5 lane interstate the lane I was in became an exit only lane after about 2 miles so about a mile in I looked over my shoulder to move into the next lane and saw a white minivan about 60 feet back. I was traveling the same speed as it was but I sped up a couple mph just to make sure I didn't impede it's travel. I also signaled for about 15 seconds before I merged into her lane. I remember thinking, "Way to go, you are such a courteous driver!" Once I was in her lane, which was now the furthest right hand lane--the slow lane-- I maintained my speed but she sped up and got on my bumper.

After about 30 seconds of her staying on my bumper and not using one of the 3 other, faster lanes to go around on this very lightly trafficked interstate I just let off the gas from about 68 mph to encourage her to go around me.

I coasted down to friggin' 15 mph and there she still was no more than 2 feet from my bumper! I was furious now, because I had been so courteous to her by signaling so long and increasing my speed as to not impede her! And then to top it all off, when she finally did go around me, instead of using one of the other 3 lanes available to her left she passed me on the fucking shoulder!!! I looked at her as she went by, didn't even look back, she was on her cell phone and looked oblivious. And stupid. And like a bitch.

I aint making fun of ya man, just people like the woman you described are a dime a dozen. They're everywhere, ignorant fucks.

I especially like the people that come racing up to tailgate you, are on your ass for over 10 seconds, then decide to pass you going even faster than they were before (given that they were already going above the speed limit ) all the while there are empty lanes around you for miles.

My permit has no provisions stating that it is for strictly recreational use. So I can carry when and where I want(given it is not a federal building,school, etc...). And yes it must be concealed.

 

This is one of those threads that could go on forever.

This morning an old guy with, I assume, his wife in passenger seat passed me at a light. Legal pass had a clear lane no problems. Then he slows to 10 mph below the speed limit for about 2 miles because there is no legal way to pass him now. At one point we were down to about 15 mph. I have no idea what I did but I could see him keeping an eye on me in his rear view mirror. I couldn't count how many cars were lined up behind me but it had to be 30 or more.

I just followed him but when at a light I really wanted to get out walk up to his car and thank him for making a safer motor America. Wish him Merry Christmas and say God bless.
