I need to replace KNOCK SENSOR 2 on my Tacoma V6 4L 2007 Access cab. I am about half the way done taking out the cylinder heads but was wondering, once everything has been removed out of the way, how do I tell which one is 1 and which one is 2. OBDII says I need to replace 2. I know the recommendation is to replace both at the same time because it is PIA to access them so you might as well once you've gone through the effort but I only have to replace 2 to shut the check engine light and pass the inspection and times are difficult moneywise...

    Thanks in advance

Ok, so from my experience, the only thing that sets a light for a knock sensor on toyotas is if a rat has gotten in there and chewed up the wires going to the sensors. Not 100% garunteed, but its is most likely the problem. Such being the case, go to your local dealer and purchase the small knock sensor harness that goes in the valley, should be fairly cheap. And why you are there, if you want, replace both sensors, but i would guess you shouldnt have to replace either one once you get in there and see what has happened.

Well, sorry i didnt answer the question, i was trying to help inform you of my experiences with toyota knock sensors, again, in 6 years with toyota i have seen 1 knock sensor go bad , ever.

But to answer your question, #1 would be for bank 1 which on our engines is on the passenger side. So, #2 would then be for bank 2 which, is on the drivers side of the engine.

    Hope this helps.

yes, it does. thanks. i have tried multiple OBDII devices and they all say the same thing: knock sensor 2. i'm gonna replace it and see what happens, i.e. whether the light goes off.

I am not saying anything about the quality or accuracy of your scanners, i am mearly trying to help you avoid issues with getting in there and finding the wires all chewed up by a rat. Either way, good luck to you, let me know how it turns out.
