 at some of these arguments.

Why are you bringing stale shit into this argument?

Gun laws are politically driven. Cell phone usage and texting while driving is scientifically backed and supported by numerous studies.

Those who bring up the "government is trying to control everything" shit should tune off Glen Beck for a few minutes

I watch people texting, and they look down for a significant amount of time, in peak traffic....it's soo bad that I now look behind me while I drive to see if the person is texting, then I switch lanes. Sometimes I'd even blow my horn at them, and they don't even look up :)

Yeah, could have been anything. That's not what the judge said though and in the end, that's all that matters. ;)

Yeah, and I remember reading about a town that has a by-law against profanity in public. By-laws can be easily challenged in court, they really mean nothing. ;)

perhaps, ..but even if invalid, ..the "system" ends up costing the defendant a lot of time/money - and herein is the injustice... ;)

These by-laws don't often get enforced. When they are enforced, it's usually for good reason...(repeat offenders that have had warning previously, flagrant abuse etc).

wouldn't be surprised if some towns still have ordinances against working on sunday, ..or some such things... the code should be cleaned up at all levels, including the local level...

not much, ...in fact simply contacting local or state gov't reps/officials can really make an impact - sometimes it just takes pointing out all the "dumb" things in there to them, ...easy for them to draft bills to repeal/fix...). happens all the time,,. just a matter of someone bringing it to their attention...

Yeah, OK. Work in the public sector for a while, you would be surprised at the staff cost alone. Don't get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with asking for change, that's why we live in a democratic society. There is a cost though for this freedom, like it or not.

...don't know what state you live in (it says "earth" under your avatar :D),.. but if you take a look at your code, ...spend a few minutes, ..you'll undoubtedly run across all kinds of ridiculous crap in there, ... sometimes contradictory, or so poorly written that it "could" be interpreted to conflate things it was never intended to..

In Canada they banned texting and talking without bluetooth. I NEED to have access to a phone when im driving. I cant acomplish a job if not. Bluetooths arnt that bad compared to eating/drinking, radios, kids or being tired. Maybe they should ban fast food drive thru and make vehicles with out dvd players or radios built into the dash.

They could have banned just texting and hand dialing and got it passed easily. Theyre going to strong with adding bluetooth and a full out ban, thats the reason it probably wont get passed. I agree with no texting and calling when driving but I still need to answer phone calls. :D

I fully agree, some of it is rather humorous in fact. Lawyers have a field day with it...

Have a look here for a good laugh. The by-laws made sense at the time they were written but are now antiquated...

exactly right... and (i think) you could add stuff like banning text-while-driving, or cell-phone-while-driving, right up there w/ it.. at some point we have to realize that a campaign based on common sense and responsiblitly/accountability triumphs over heavy-handed controls...

I got rearended by someone who was distracted by being over obsessed about the person texting in the other lane.
