So do you think 1x1x1 12 gauge with 2 bars across the bed tied into the bed rails will be able to support a load of 200-300 lbs? While driving through washboards and such

it'll bounce, but it should hold up jsut fine. mine is 1x1x14g for the crossbars. i wnated to use 12, but didn't have any in my garage. it'll hold plenty of weight, but with a 33'' tire, a shovel, hi-lift, and 5 gallon jerry can, there is some deffinate movement on the fast stuff. i'm also inclined to say a good deal of the bouncing is the plastic bed rail caps squishing under load

But no issues with bed rails failing? I'm thinking a tool box, couple jerry cans, gear for whatever, hi lift, spare parts, recovery stuff, etc.

Do you think making a larger mounting point to the rails would help? Instead of a 3-4" bracket with 2 bolts, maybe 6" with 4 bolts? Making the bracket extend over the top of the bed? Making the bracket contour the railing system with a pad on the bottom to help it not eat into the bed material under the railing system? Does that not make any sense lol

Those are hinges. They came from northern tool and have a zerk fitting. I got the same ones and they were about $12 each.

two bolts ber side of each crossbar should be fine. even with two, you'll rip the track right out of the bed before the bolts have an issue. what you do want is a very large area ontop of the bedsides. that plastic will fatigue over time and squish down. so the more surface area you can have supporting the weight, the better.
