Just traded my Ford Ranger for a 2008 Tacoma. Everybody ask what it is, a Base, a Pre Runner, an X Runner and I don't know. The answer isn't on the truck or in the owners manual. I bought it at a Ford dealership, so I went back and ask the guy I bought it from and he didn't know either. I know you guys will know. It makes buying after market parts much easier if you you know this. Let me tell you about my truck. It's just a plain white truck, it's 4x4, 4.0 V6, 6 speed manual transmission. It has 2 normal doors - 2 small doors. Jump seats in the back. It's got a nice 6 speaker sound system, but strangely does not have intermittent wipers (which I miss already). It has plenty of power so it's not very good on gas. It has steel wheels and was built some where in California. Any info you can give me will be appreciated. I think I'm going to like it though.

    is it basically this?

If there is a hood scoop, or better yet, white door handles and white side mirrors and white rear bumper, its a trd sport, if it doesn't, it's either off road, or sr5, but if it has the steel rims like the ones in this pic, its an sr5. So you have an access cab 4x4 sr5 tacoma, if that's the case.

That's close to it. Mine has black fender flares and the grill is not chrome. The front and rear bumpers are black. It has the 16 inch steel wheels like the one in the pic.

I've seen them with sr5 on the tail gate, but mine doesn't have that. Mine doesn't have fog lights either. But it has tire pressure monitoring which surprises me. No hood scoop.

The SR5 package should include intermittent wipers. I know that the bottom base models of the DC's and extra cabs did not include intermittent wipers and had black front and rear bumpers but most 2nd Gen Tacomas that I know of are either SR5's or TRD's. You may have gotten 1 of the few Tacomas that didn't have one of the convenience packages added on. More than likely the original owner ordered it like that because I've never seen a base model DC or extra cab on a dealer lot.

So I am reading this and scratching my head .... is it just me or do people buy things they don't know a heck of a lot about?

I'm not just talking about vehicles (although it is most likely the 2nd biggest item one may buy) but phones, cameras, computers, etc ....

This is not a burn ... just an observation.

its not an sr5! sr5's have color matched fenders and intermittent wipers. you have a base 4x4 and there are plenty of base model access cabs and double cabs out there but most of the time they will be sold on a fleet lot or be in the back for commercial customers. the large geotech and dirtwork construction companies around here use them as their work vehicles.

No I don't think you have SR5. You might have a base model with convenience package like mine. Black fenders, black plastic grille, tow package, air, power windows, cruise. Where the stereo and heating/air controls are the surround is black and not silver. No leather anywhere, no lumbar support, no variable speed wipers, no back up camera.

This is stock before delivery. It looks different now.
