    morning Jim, Ken.

2 qts low  guess I'd better start checking mine more often on my trip. Phooey on slowing down - if the speed limit is 80, I'm gonna be doing 80!!

Morning everyone!! Last 2 days of work for me in 2011!! Woo Hoo!!!

That's a lot of oil to lose, Jim! Wow!!! I'd better check my baby soon. Are these engines notorious for this type of issue? I put over 150k on my old 4Runner and never had to add any oil between changes.

Good morning all. I would think that 2 qts is excessive on a Toyota.

Back in the 60's and early 70's I had a GM L72 motor that used a qt every 500 to 800 miles by design.

That's why I'd rather start with a new vehicle - not one that was previously used and abused. If there's any abusing to do, I'll be the one doing it  and then I won't have anyone to blame but myself. I"ve heard too many stories of guys starting to have issues and trading them in. Mine is usually a half quart low when I change it... 3500 - 4200 miles.

    Good Luck

afternoon all: plumb puddings are steaming, house smells good :hungry:  !
didn't add oil between oil changes to any of my toyotas. definately sounds like something is wrong. and agreed on the L-72. I have to check my oil constantly. probablly have 10 boxes of 43-N plugs. them big blocks are also very hard on plugs, and then there's the constant adjusting of valves; oh but when it all comes together :burnrubber::D!
ken: got pretty far with your instructions, but still can't get pics to transfer to TW. will have to get someone here to show me. at least I got pics onto photobucket. i'll get there!!! sooner or later.
trash bin? heck-when can I move in. hope there aren't any homeless in your area. they may use it as a shelter. LOOKS GOOD!

    Carl:
I got so good at adjusting the valves that I could listen and know which one to adjust. With solid lifters I was adjusting them every weekend. Glad it only took about 30 min to do the job.

 sounds like you were running it. been there; run on sun., and adjust on mon., maby even sun. night. even the rocker nuts W/ the locking allen screw couldn't keep the valves in adjustment. got rid of those darn things, more of a pain than anything.

had a 2nd. design L-88 (open chamber)-(iron heads) in the car for a few yrs. not too good to drive on the street W/ 12.5 compression, and 560-580 lift cam. still have the heads from that motor. probablly worth a small fortune. also have the "rockcrusher" I was running in it. that too is worth $$$$$!

SUE! didn't see post on zoie here. what happened to her? hope she will be OK. critters are pretty resilient.

You just need to be quiet. LOL

I am taking the day off from building to run errands. I was going to do this yesterday but it did not rain.

Morning everybody! I'm playing hooky from work today...vacation time, use it or lose it.

Maybe I'll get ambitious and wash a week's accumulation of logging road dirt and mud off of the Tacoma...outside and inside.

If I get real brave maybe I'll even start digging through the accumulation of stuff that builds up in the back. Old oil and gas jugs, saw parts, tire chains, tools, sweatshirts, tow chains, chokers, batteries, and stuff that just tends to wind up there over the course of a season adds up after awhile.

Cleaning it all out every winter when we're through working for the year is quite an adventure. I almost always find stuff I thought I'd lost or had completely forgotten about. The Tacoma serves not only as transportation but as a portable office and tool carrier and work station. It looks like it , too.

It's sort of like that old saying "one of these days I've got to get organized"...Maybe today is the day.

Morning everyone! Last day of work in 2011 for me!! We shut down the college for the last 2 weeks of the year and give everyone off. Plus, they will all get a Christmas bonus again this year - $1000 for full-timers and $500 for part-timers.

    Enjoy the day!!
