would it not also create a large transition from heated to non heated areas, and would mean that the doors need to be cut down?

true, but not too many houses have in floor heat throughout an entire floor, most just in bathrooms and kitchens. it's an 1 1/8th thick so you have to make that up somehow from heated to non heated. to me it creates more problems than it solves, unless you do the entire floor with it.

its a radiant heat nad subfloor sheathing all in one - its 1-1/8" so anywhere you dont have the board you would want 1-1/8" ply

That's a big expense to add 1 1/8" ply..... Be cheaper to just use the product through out the house lol :p

probably would be, and you know some cracked out flooring guy would staple the shit out of the water lines when putting down hardwood (engineered hardwood of course).

    Lol very true

We have done a few places with radiant heating. Two used the lines set right in the concrete and one was set into 11/2" of self leveling grout

I guess you would only have to make up 3/8", but in my experience flooring guys have by far the lowest "give a shit" factor of any trade and would F it up somehow.

we do a lot of hydronic in floor heating systems. in the slab in basements and garages, and on the bottom side of the sheathing everywhere else. generally with 1/2" pex lines about 12" apart in slabs and two 1/2" pex lines per joist space elsewhere. joist spaces then get insulated with bubble foil insulation.

A guy I did some work for kept stressing to me about his in floor heat and not to drill any holes into etc etc.

He grabs a drill one day to do some work on a Sunday, ending up drilling a half inch hole through the main feed line lol
