Same here, only thing different we do is get the joist spaces shot with a bit of spray foam on top of the foil insul

Lisa, the engineer who drew up and did all the work for the engineered trusses we got showed up on Wednesday at our site. Said the building supply company called and put in a complaint on our behalf. He was upset that his work got called out. Tried to pin a lot of it on us but my boss actually was able to disprove his theories

Said he didn't like to hear anyone complaining about his work so he proceeded to blame the guys in the factory that made the trusses

 

I take it that the guys in the factory were not there to defend themselves. LOL

Sounds a lot like fixing a problem with a telecommunications carrier. They always blame the party that is not present.

Were you able to get any compensation for the incorrect product that you had to use? I am guessing that there were some man hours involved to make the product fit properly.

They are compensating for the hours to fix it and I believe they are giving the customer a break since they are so bad

I'll have to take a few pics for you to look at. I'm going to say no, there was no quality control at all.

 

Sucks that you had to spend time to make it fit. At least there is some compensation.

 

There's going to be a lot by the time we are done. The house has porches along the front and rear of the building, all these trusses range about 1/4" different in length, the vertical chord is approximately square to the horizontal cord lol. Each one has to be cut to fit

 

We started sheeting the roof today, most of the girder trusses are so off that the plywood is floating over them....

 

Do the trusses not extend past the wall plates ?

 

On both sides of the roof ?

 

I put the roof on, yesterday, a trash can bin that I am buiding. More like a small shed. The roof trusses are very simple but I built a jig to measure the distance from the edge of the fromt wall to the tip of the truss. Made the plywood roof fit like a glove. I was able to get the tarpaper on yesterday as well. I hope to shingle it tomorrow.

After that it is just cutting and installing the wall sheting, installing the trim, fabricating doors for part of the structure and then painting it. I hope to be finished next week.

 

Majority of the trusses no. It's a multi-pitch roof with 6 gables and porch roofs. The porch trusses are half trusses that attach to the walls directly and are sitting on exposed fir beams. We would have issues with the soffit if we left them long, not to mention our fascias would be wavy

 

Yes, the girders are the right length though so they aren't short
