So a safe number to flush/refill tranny would be 70k?

I picked up my taco from a Toyota dealership with the "used certified" check list at around 38k miles. I assume the tranny flush/refill was included on their list to do?

Toyota's maintenance booklet doesn't advertise 100,000 mi fluid change interval.

USA Booklet: Replace transmission fluid every 60,000 mi or 72 mo. if you tow often.

Canadian Booklet: Replace transmission fluid every 96,000 km or 72 mo., period.

60,000 mi seems like a good number. :) A flush can also expose pre-existing bad seals and leaks inside the transmission. You WANT such things exposed before your powertrain warranty expires. :)

I change mine every 50k, in all my cars unless it says to do it sooner, I figure transmission maintenance it a lot cheaper than letting dirty or old fluid cause a problem, last change cost me $75 with a coupon and I never regret spending the money. You may not agree or thing I am over doing it, but I don't care, it is just what I do to ensure everything is running on the best rather then wishing I had done something after the fact.

I have also not had great experience with the dealerships doing work, I took mine to the Toyota dealership and basically told the guy, I bought this used, I want to make sure everything it ok, because I am not a mechanic, I just play one on the weekends, and told him to give me a complete list of everything that needed to be done, and I would gladly pay for it. They didn't come back with much, which was nice because it is nice to know I didn't buy a lemon, and our trucks are general awesome, but I also am big on maintenance, so I gave him a list of everything I wanted done, and he rolled his eyes, and it all got done.

Its like they didn't want my money :frusty:

Sounds good to me, I think they are over-reaching saying tranny fluid can last 100k anyways

    Not enough.
I heard full flushes were bad for the 2nd gens, I might be doing just a drain and fill but a flush would be nice...just not sure.

I wouldn't let any fluid go over 50k if you plan on keeping it a long time. Antifreeze, power steer, brake, diffs, transmission, transfer, engine, blinker. And if you drive in the mud/water then every 20-30k.

I drive my truck pretty hard, not jackrabbit-ting or anything like that, but i work and play in that truck, i can positively say for certain that replacing the fluid made a big difference in how the tranny worked.
