Snorkel cover?

Weird question I suppose but I'm wondering,

Has anyone ever covered their snorkel opening during the winter months while their truck is parked outside for long periods of time?

If so, what did you use?

I've noticed during the last snow storm (if you could call it that) while my truck was parked outside at work, my snorkel opening had quite a bit of snow blown in. That's not good so i would like to cover it somehow to prevent this.

I've also turned the snorkel head around backwards to help prevent sucking snow in while driving down the highway, but obviously this doesn't help when my truck is parked. So if anyone has any suggestions, that would be appreciated.

 

i would get a sock, at least that is what i am going to use when i finally install my snorkel. I am actually trying to make a additional filter to fit over the opening. I will get serious when i actually install "Said" snorkel. Let me know what you come up with. I have a old K&N filter that i pulled apart that i was going to use for the cover, just need to fab up something to form to the opening of snorkel.

 

I thought about the sock idea as well but quickly dismissed it. As soon as it gets wet, it'll freeze into a solid block of ice effectively blocking off the intake of air and making it damn near impossible to pull off.

Currently i'm just using a plastic grocery bag and covering the opening with it. That helps a lot but looks really bad.

Anybody else have this problem? Any other ideas or am i stuck using a plastic bag? lol

Pantyhose would work as a prefilter, we haven't had much snow here so I haven't worried about it but had thought about it.

 

Thanks North! That's a great idea. Right now i have window screen covering the inside of the tube to prevent bugs, cig butts and gravel from getting in (yea never know with kids these days!) But that doesn't really help block the snow from getting in.

Black panty hose seems like best way to go for this. It'll blend in really well and hopefully i won't have to remove it all the time like a bag (or bucket). I'll give it a try and report back.

 

Cool, I used to use them on the air filters for my dirtbikes. I was thinking about the snorkle one day when it was snowing and thought it might work, as well as being cheap, disposable and low profile.

 

A little off topic, but directed towards someone with a snorkel. Did you do any other type of waterproofing on your truck other than the snorkel (like waterproof your sparkplugs)?

 

Besides moving things to higher ground (vent breathers) that was about it for me.

black stockings imo the cheapest solution it blends in and doesn't restrict air flow and it keeps the caca out.

shit this is what i'm doing when it begins to snow heavy and in the summertime when the bugs are all out. i was finding all kinds of shit in my air box last summer.

Great idea, but the grill can't be removed from my snorkel.

I agree, black stocking may be my best bet. I'll report back as soon as we get some snow. Looks like we're in for a green Christmas this year. That doesn't happen often.

Yea i've seen trucks do that as well and another good idea. It may get soggy and wet with continued use though. That's where a bag or bucket may be a little handier.

Unfortunately i don't have any of those just laying around eh. Mind helping a buddy out?

On second thought, the lacy thongs i'm picturing probably won't cover all that much, but booty shorts? Mmmm ( ops i meant Hmmmm!)

 

Does someone make a can cover like you see on a Humvee or some of the big rigs so the snorkle isn't taking driven snow/bugs/rain directly down the intake tube?
