Air Force dumped hundreds of remains of dead soldiers from Dover base into landfill

then they think its ok to joke about it.

 

One reason I don't wear my uniform around Post, or have any AF stickers on either my or my wife's car. Epic failure of every NCO pictured...

 

I am gonna go out on a limb and say that you have never seen a day in the military...regardless of your claims to be a Marine. If you are, I do not want my tax dollars wasted on paying your fucktard ass one day longer.

There is a duty owed to every member of the US military..and that is one of respect when one gives his/her life for their country. It is a DUTY...and the family deserves to have their loved ones back as complete as possible. If I ran the AF, I would fire some people, regardless of rank or position.

 

I doubt they were aware of what was happening. Regardless, this is an example of how detached some...most...in the AF are from combat operations and its cost.

 

cant agree more.....if someone dies for the country IMHO they deserve the utmost respect. think about it....they gave away the life they knew for a war that they very well may know nothing about. I dont see people saying that we should dump the remains of the unkown soldiers in a landfill. whats the difference?

 

When my MIL passed away, when her cremains were returned; we were on a CG vessel headed out to sea shortly thereafter.

If that can be done for a family member of a serviceman (my ex-BIL is in the CG); it can be done for the serviceman. The military should make that happen.

 

Remember, these were remains that were UNCLAIMED by the families and the policy has been changed to burial at sea from Navy ships.

Obviously there's some folks here that are NOT getting what "remains" means in this instance. I'm just quoting this one b/c it's articulate.

The "remains" that were dumped were all the left-over bits and pieces. We're not talking bodies, torso's, etc that have DNA and can be ID'd, or finger prints, or dental records. They're talking scraps of flesh, lumps of tissue and such that are just not easy to ID. Remember, a lot of these guys are being EXPLODED by IEDs and the like. It's not like in the movies where the entire body lands intact and dead.

So a "mass grave with the names" just isn't possible. If we knew their names, they would have been buried with the rest of that body.

Sure, at sea or a mass "leftover" type of internment site would have been preferable. But would you rather we leave those bits and pieces on the ground in the Middle East, or at least in the ground in the US?

What do you guys think happens with body parts at a hospital though? If you go in and they amputate your leg (say it's a car accident or you're diabetic), it's not like they keep that sucker on ice until you die. Burn and trash it.

While it could have been handled differently, I think the media representation of it is horribly inflammatory and a lot of people aren't thinking this through 100%.

 

While these are cremated remains (the unidentified parts & pieces of the fallen) they still should be disposed of in a dignified military ceremony.

 

No matter how you sugar coat it, you cannot change the perception of disposing of a soldier's remains in a dump.

 

They knew it was your MIL, these remains were not identified. This makes it a whole different ball game.

 

We've already established families didn't want the remains returned or they were unidentified. Shouldn't be any more work.

 

How Is it that the US held a ceremony for Osama but decided to just dump our own. This makes me sick!
