timing belt?

    K&N intake, Flow series exhaust, bfg all-terrains, Line-X bed liner, 2.5'' leveling kit, diff drop(just to be safe), hard wired inverter, Delta tool box, high lift mounted in bed, Jerry can mount for in the bed, spidertrax wheel spacers, all-pro rear bumper, gray wire mod
    My 2000 tacoma has 128,000 on it and am not sure if the timing belt has ever been changed. I've done basically everything else to "tune it up" since I bought it 6,000 miles ago, but am wondering if I should change it now or if I can wait a few more thousand miles. I know the sooner the better but I just spent a crap load of the green stuff on this thing and my wife would go crazy if she found out I now need to spend another $1000. Any wisdom on the matter would be appreciated.

    Diff Breather,CB thingy,GPS,Cop Shocks,Cop Brakes, old Man Emu 881's Dakar Leaf Springs and Nitro sport shocks. Deck Plate mod
    You are good to go. When you do replace it go ahead and change the waterpump thermostat (and pullys if money permits) If it does break it will not kill the motor, you will be stranded though..

    ARB bumper, warn 9.5 winch. carbon fiber hood. Leer top with thule racks and MOAB from thule. Electric fans, blue sea fuse block, Sony dvd Head unit, Xm tuner and HD tuner. New carpet and new racing seats. ( other half doesnt like them i think). Nwor springs and adjustable coil overs. Sky jacker rear shocks. Slot and drilled rotors. Engine Titanium ceramic coated headers, no cat, jba cat back. URD Rear Sensor Simulator. Leds all around and inside cab and HID H4 hi/lo beams.
    Replace cam seals if leaking.

    So a buddy of mine said that I should do it real quick cause if that belt snaps, it'll whip around and screws up a whole lot of other stuff in vicinity basically totaling the vehicle. Is this not necessarily true on the 3.4 engines?

    I can't see it taking out more than the timing belt cover. Pull the cover off and have a look at the belt. If it's in really bad shape change it. If not, wait until you can afford it, just don't wait too long.

    What about on a 2005 4.0 V6 with just over 91000 miles when should the belt be changed??? Thanks for any input!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    no it wont totally screw up your engine. you will still have an engine but you will be stranded

    I think you have a timing chain, so i wouldn't worry about it. Some one correct me if i'm wrong. (That was for the 2nd gen guy)
