Odd size closet doors...how to replace them?

I live in a house built in the 20's that was recently remodeled, but the contractors didn't do anything with the funky, tiny original closets. I don't mind that the closets are small, but in my room, there are no doors on the closet and I'd like to find something to cover the space. The doors are 67 inches tall, and 24 inches wide, it's a real weird size. I think the entire opening is about 80 inches, but there's a shelf and drawers built in to the bottom of the closet. also, the top track and bottom track seem to built in to the frame, not a piece that can be removed. Do you guys have a suggestion on how to either get closet doors that will fit (without spending 1 grand), or another way to cover the closet? Here are some pics I took of the closet in my roomates room. He has doors that I could probably jack, but they're ugly as hell and don't really even work.

 

Have the door custom made at Lowes or Home Depot.

 

Put up a curtain rod and hang a curtain. Problem solved. You could call around to some door places and get a quote but I think you will be spending some money.

The Big Box Stores are not set up to cater to this request. I work for HD. I know.

What you have there from what I can tell in your pics is an neat old build in wardrobe closet. Your best solution would be to get some 1/2" birch plywood and make your own doors to fit...

Depends on your budget OP

Make them yourself if you have the skills

You could cut down a solid slab door

Or have a door shop build you a custom sized door

 

Those were some quick replies. I really don't want to spend much, I called a few closet door shops and they said it would start around 1000 bucks. I don't own the home, so i don't want to put that kind of money in the closet. I definitely don't have the skill to make a door, especially with the added tracks and such.
So i am assuming I can't just buy a universal door this size? If I pull out the bottom piece (wardrobe) would a universal door fit? I was thinking of the curtain, but that would be last resort. Thanks ..

 

If you don't mind a flat slab door , you get a solid core slab and have it cut down

 

a finish carpenter could make decent doors that would fit on those tracks in a couple of hours. would probably cost you $200 in labor plus materials.

I have taken a bigger door and cut it down to size using a table saw.

 

If you live in a rental, the curtain idea is the best. You could get the folks at HD to rip a sheet of plywood down to the size you need and then just hinge the doors instead of returning them to bypass. I'd bet you could do the whole thing for under $100.

You would have to have those doors made by a carpenter or a shop

 

Curtain, blinds (roll up or slats) or those hippie beads

 

That's a Craftsman style closet.....love that architecture.

If you own the house, have the doors from the other closet copied.

If you're renting, just do the curtain thing.

 

Bypass, as in they slide past eachother right? If so, then yes. I am renting, but my uncle owns the home so any money I put in he would reimburse, he's just much too cheap to spend any real money on closet doors. I'll admit the drawers are pretty cool, but the thing is I'd like to add some metal, much more modern doors. I'm guessing it's not really possible with these particular ones? I would have to go with wood correct?

Why would you say places like Home Depot or Lowes are not set up to order custom sized doors? It seems like they'd put the order into their supplier and done...

The reason I'm asking is I'm in the same boat with an exterior door and looking to have Home Depot order a custom sized door to fit. I bought a 1906 house and am in the same boat as the OP, nothing is 'standard' size.

Sorry for the threadjack, just wanted to get more info on the big box stores because I'll be replacing interior doors same as you in the upcoming years.

 

I would find out what companies are building doors in my area and make some calls rather than going through a big box.
If the big box has the capability, they would do the same thing.

You might get a hold of a mfr that won't sell direct. In that case they should be able to provide a list of dealers. Or find another mfr that will deal.
