Everybody has to take their knocks. I am 17 years out of college. Enjoy the freedom that the college life offers. It goes away fast. I have two mortgages and I am saving for my kids college now.

I am a Vice President in a large healthcare corporation. Bonuses are 0%-30% of base salary based on the company performance. I have a great job but I have paid my dues and worked hard and have a lot of responsibility.

I completely get that. Makes sense.

Did your degree help you get to where you are today, or was it more of a business acumen which moved you along?

I was always told that with an education and a good work ethic you can succeed in life. I've lived by that mantra, devoting long, hard hours to my employers and never complaining (to them). I'm not a self-promoter and I want the company to succeed, but I feel this 2% bullshit is really dampening my outlook on things.

I've been with my current company 5.5 years and I've been in the field for 11 years. But I no longer feel obliged to take on new responsibility or "go the extra mile," because I know I won't get compensated for it. Which is sad, because it goes against everything I've ever learned and lived by.

    Ok, I need some advice.
Which looks better, a HealthCare MBA from George Washington or a Masters in Health Care Administration from National University?

My degree got me in the door. I started on an internship in my senior year in college and was hired as a Financial Analyst in a Hospital and learned as much as I could about the business. I can say that I am where I am due to my business acumen and a bit of luck. My business acumen has been the cornerstone of my advancement along with the hard work over the years.

You definitely have the right idea. Sometimes it takes a bit of luck to find the right fit as well. I would say that if you feel that you are not being recognized for your talents, you may need to move to find the right fit. I moved several times in my career to advance my salary and spread my network. Some of those moves were for salary only and that works in the short run but definitely not the long run. I was commuting from Riverside to Pasadena every day early in my career for the position and salary and it took a toll on me and my family. Once you find the right fit and balance between salary and loving the people you work with, you will know it.

Good luck and keep up the hard work. If you are like me, that will provide a big portion of your satisfaction.

I'd like to run a clinic or small hospital, although none of them are small anymore.

got a $500 check and a $600 laptop that was returned to buy an apple tv, a new sony AV receiver w/ 4 hdmi inputs (for the man cave), and a kitchen aid mixer for the wife...shit is expensive.

$5000 check and a 3.5% raise to start the new year......not bad for being with the company only 6 months :D

I think the MHA will serve you better. You should look for a program that has a professional internship as part of the program. It is the best way to fill out your resume and make professional connections. Good luck!
