Found something else to buy.....a new jacket. REI Taku
But it is a necessity - I've been searching for a jacket specifically to wear when I am out snowshoeing. I need waterproof, breathable, vented & hooded and finally found one that meets all of those requirements! And with the sale going on I can get it for about $100 which is still a good chunk of money in my opinion but after last weekend it will be money well spent.

I was out snowshoeing last weekend and it was about 10* out. I was moving along pretty good and working up a sweat with the jacket that I had on (its not vented) and when I stopped for lunch I immediately started to shiver from the cold. Normally I would have been fine but because my clothes were soaked I was freezing! Thankfully I always carry a change of clothes in my pack and was able to change into a dry shirt and continue on my trek. If I hadn't have planned ahead I very easily could have gotten hypothermia. That scared me enough to convince me that getting a new and more activity appropriate jacket is a priority!

Funny thing is that I ALMOST left my spare clothes in the truck because my pack was full and I was determined to bring my tripod with me. I ended up keeping the clothes and securing the tripod to the outside of my pack. Good thing I did too!

you can only have one love Dave. You must choose...truck, camping, or girls....

I always try to take a change of clothes. Depending on the weather and how far I plan to go determines if they'll go in a pack or stay in the car.

Good call on the tripod. I usually slide one of the legs through a cinch strap on the top and two inside the bottom cinch strap.

You do photography too? Its my main reason for going out as much as I do so camera gear is always a staple in my pack. My Osprey pack has bungees for trekking poles/ice axes but I've found that they work great for my tripod too.

I've seen those but I don't know how much I would trust it to support my DSLR. I have a smaller, tabletop tripod that I bring with me - packed up its only about 14" tall so it can fit in my pack and I almost always have a rock or tree stump to set it up on to compensate for its shorter height (fully extended its still only about knee high)

They have one called dslr-zoom that should hold most dslr and lens combos.

    http://joby.com/gorillapod/slrzoom/features

I was gonna try it out but I broke my dslr so now its time to upgrade my bnody ones I have the money.

I have one that I'd use for my P&S. No way I'd use it or the dSLR model to hold the camera to a tree.

I do. For the nice days, I use a F-Stop backpack for gear. I can get my camera stuff plus a jacket, etc. in it. Full on shooting, I can load it with camera gear. Winter is a little different. I usually just use a backpack and wrap my camera gear in clothing--plus take less of it.

On another note...I got my new jacket today! :yay: Now if I can just kick this stupid cold I can try it out this weekend.

I prescribe a wandering trip. Walk through the place and maybe something will speak to you. Or if there's something you would otherwise not purchase but want, get that.
