I was passing a semi yesterday and a rock hit my windshield, leaving a star right in the middle of the passenger's side. It's about 1/3" in diameter. It's only on the outside, the cracks don't extend through to the inside of the glass.

I've found a few home repair kits, like Fix-A-Windshield, by Fix-A-Flat. Does anyone have experience using this product or a similar one? Or is it better to take it to a glass shop and let them take care of it?

I would just take it to a glass shop. It's relatively cheap for them to repair it. < $50

I've had a chip about that size for about 2.5 years now and it hasn't gotten any bigger so at this point I'm not worried about repairing it since it's been through 2 winters, 2 summers, and multiple offroad excursions and hasn't gotten any worse.

the glass shops have a way of applying the sealant under high pressure, which the diy kits you buy yourself can't do. i would go the glass shop route no question. they guarantee the results as well, and usually it is fully covered by insurance.

Looks like we have an agreement. Glass shop it is.

Not sure about insurance covering it; $500 deductible on my comprehensive (oh I miss the good ol' days on my parents' insurance with a $50 deductible). I'll ask though, can't hurt. If it's less than $50 anyway I might be better off just paying it out of pocket anyway.

    Thanks!
