Is a lift worth the risk

I keep hearing of so many issues with lifting these trucks. I would love to lift mine but not if it is going to screw things up.

 

What issues?

 

Better question to ask is do you really need a lift?

 

For every issue you hear of, there have to be at least twice that many that have zero problems. Do the lift, you will definitely learn something along the way, and you will be making it your own.

 

I have the worst kind of lift and still have zero problems....

 

I have 4x4 short box. Want to go with the bilstein 5100's and new UCA with AAL in the rear.

I keep hear about vibration issues with the majority of lifts.

It seems like there is no 'right way', but more like hit or miss.

 

You're doing it the right way, if you have a vibration, isolate it, and fix it.

 

I just put in a small lift without any problems. I did my research here on TW and Tacoma HQ. It has been my observation that those who are thorough in their research and modifications have no troubles. Those trying to cut corners have often had to add mods after their initial attempt.

I have definitely learned about my truck by going through the process...and I am stoked about the results!

x2, I would ask the same question. If you want 0 issues, no mystery vibes and no chance of them, keep it stock.

 

I want a lift to make this truck more my own. All I have ever owned has been chevrolet cavalier's. Now that I have a great job and a family I feel like rewarding myself by finally having a vehicle that I actually 'want' to put some money into.

 

Understandable. The higher the lift, the more potential issues you could have. I went with 5100's all around, a 1.5" AAL out back and Eibach coils up front. I retained the stock UCA's and 0 issues. Old Man Emu kits are priced well and have a great reputation. Anything over 2" you should at least start to think about new UCA's, over 2.5" and you should definitely get new UCA's IMO.

 

Don't lift it.

So how much of a lift did you get from that set up. Did you set yours at 1.5"

 

If you do it right the only added risks are an increase chance of rolling over if you take a turn to fast which you shouldn't be doing anyway in a truck.

 

Pretty close, maybe a tiny bit over 1.5" up front. The AAL I used was Icon's 1.5" 3-leaf AAL and they tell you to remove the factory overload leaf and leave it out when you install it. I'm at 2" in the rear because I left the factory overload leaf in place but I carry a fiberglass shell and tools around all day and wanted to be able to tow/haul without really squatting so this set-up worked well for me.

Do Pugga's lift.

 

I have the OME 3" lift with Dakar rear leaf kit, stock UCAS's and no problems with vibration or alignment. Truck rides great & no issues - I'd do it again in a heartbeat.
Like another poster said - do it right the first time and you'll have no issues.
