The info that I got from the cap dealer was that the upgrade to mine would be just a sheet of plywood (or something similar) in the roof, and it would only hold about 200 lbs

Oh , so definitely a different type of reinforcing . My cap roof is rated at 400 lbs .

I bought my used Leer cap recently and it came with the Thule roof rack factory installed. The fasteners are rusty now and a few of them leak so water drips in there on wet days. I am going to remove the Thule rails next spring and reinstal them with new fasteners and some sort of sealant. That would be my only concern with installing the rails on a cap at home, just making sure you have the right sized fasteners, drill the right sized holes, and use the right type of sealant.

Yea there's no doubt about that. The commercial line is designed to handle the what you're going to be using it for.

I dunno what the OP plans to be holding on his cap, but ~200lbs capacity might be enough.

I bought the Leer 100RCC a couple months ago with the Dewalt commercial-grade rack to make sure I got the full 400lb capacity. I'm not using it commercially, but I have a rooftop tent that I needed to make sure wasn't going to fall off off-road or come crashing through while sleeping in it. If anyone's thinking of ordering one of these make sure your dealer understands that you want the commercial rack. Mine defaulted to the 150lb Thule rack on the order (even though I was ordering the cmcl cap) which just isn't packing the gear. As to the OP, I would check with your local dealer about just where/how best to mount on your particular cap.

It is a sweet cap, but I do wish they offered it with the single latch/handle for the rear window/hatch rather than having two individuals. A couple weeks ago I was up in the Sierras and when I woke up both latches were frozen. I was able to free one, but (not wanting to tear anything up) had to wait for the sun to thaw the other before I could open it. Not that big of a deal though and I like it just fine!

    That wouldn't affect a single lever ?

Yeah, I know, but then I'd only have half as many to worry about! :D That, plus the single is a whole different style so it might not be as susceptible (or it could be more so).
