Yes, driver's side only. If DIY, bearing & seal will run about $25, axle $65-$100, oil $10.

I don't know. Just a couple threads of many that say taking off helps with the vibes. The drop doesn't really looks like it does anything anyways. The before and afters are so minimal. I'd rather ditch the DD and lower the front down a 1/2". Just me though.

Yes, taking it off helps with their vibes...when the vibes are NOT caused by the front diff bearing. I did plenty of experimenting with and without a DD when my bearing was noisy. The DD makes a very noticeable difference in lessening the vibes.

EDIT: I am going to add another comment. I'm not a fan of the DD. Personally, I want as much clearance as possible. And it doesn't change the angles much anyway. But for lessening the vibe until the bearing is replaced, it is a worthwhile solution (albeit, a temporary one). Once I replaced my bearing, I did remove the DD.

@05Moose, you think an RCD kit would solve my issue? Without having the bearing replaced? Dealer refuses to do say anything is wrong. I can't help but think that with angles like this (below) that vibe would have to go away... My control arms alone are 2/3rd's the price of the RCD so I'm really thinking about having a little sale and switching it up...

I had/have the same vibe described by many. 2.5 lift in the from and only really noticed it when cold and at about 40 mph, it would go away instantly in 4wd. I had it to the dealer twice for this issue and of course they said there is nothing wrong. I recently lowered my truck back down to the .85 setting and it's gone (so far).

I know what happens when bearings fail. I want to change that front diff oil and see what kind of goodies are floating around in there. At the same time I want the dealership to see it first hand. I really hate the idea of paying them to do it.

Since I had it in twice while covered by warranty will I have any coverage after the warranty is up when the problem comes back?

I don't see how the lift would cause the issue but it sure makes it a lot more noticeable.

Seems like the best put answer. ^^^ At least you got yours covered once. The dealer pretty much told me to go eff myself.

I dont know if i would call it a vibration or a grinding/growling like wheel bearings do.

Looks like I'll need to take mine to a shop. The vibration is getting noticably worse....Anyone know if the LT tacomas are having issues like this?

Replaced the bearing this weekend. Vibe is gone for now, time will tell if it is a long term fix.

Update on mine. I brought it to a dealer and they checked it out. Natural they found nothing. I told them it only does it when it's cold and they must have run it 30 minutes after I dropped it off. I guess at least it's documented in their system. I'll wait to see if it gets any worse then I'll find another dealer. Just a quick question. Why does the vibe go way when it's hot? Wonder what would happen it I over filled the front diff.

So, any scoring on the old cv axle where it rode in the bearing? Curious how many others have had the scratches in theirs too (I've seen one other with scratches and another with pitting).

Just an update. Brought my lift from 3" down to 1.5" (just the eibachs) and vibes are gone. It's nice to not hear or feel it.

i could not feel or detect any scoring, but it was polished where the bearing contacts.

Dropped mine off and they said they could not find anything. Will be doing a test drive with dealer tonight. Frustrating.

New to the site. My 2010 Tacoma is having the exact problem as described here, growl, vibration at 30-40 MPH, worse when cold, goes away in 4WD. I have an appointment with my Toyota dealer here in Conord, NH. We will see how that goes...

Denied. Tech declared BFG TKOs "bumpy".

    Drive it till it breaks.

My front end vibration that goes away in 4wd was blamed on my rear drive shaft angle lol. I called corporate, I have a FTS coming to look at it soon.
