What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

did you notice any power gain from the headers?

 

Ya know, I had everything done at once; headers and exhaust, so it's impossible to tell which upgrade provided a performace improvement. I can tell you that it sounds bad-ass. I don't do anything hardcore in my Tacoma, nor do I drive it like a 16 year old. I rarely put the Tach above 3,000 RPMs. But again, it sounds f'en amazing and looks cool.

 

Sounds like a clutch throwout bearing. Mine squeals a tiny bit when i have the clutch engaged, but i think thats normal.

 

Bought the sub and box, took off the boxes terminals, caulked the nuts and mounting surface, and then caulked the mounting surface for the sub. Wired, bolted everything down, let it sit for a day, and now its so air tight that the cone won't even compress more than maybe 1/4 inch cuz all its doing is compressing the air inside. Perfect RockfordFosgate + sealed enclosure ftw

 

x2 Its the throwout bearing...mine squeels sitting still at stop lights but its not to bad, just replace everything while your there.

 

I have never heard of a throwout bearing only squealing on deceleration.

 

I guess he didnt make it clear whether it happens when hes driving or sitting still.

Mine quits squeeling when the pedal is depressed but time you let up on it or the clutch is engaged it squeels

 

that is the throwout bearing for sure.

 

Im pretty sure it is and everyone at the shop i work said it was as well...Im just gonna have to wait a while before i can replace it though Sad thing is that this clutch was brand new when i got the truck 2 years ago and it only has 25,000 miles on it...Guess it was just a faulty bearing that came with the clutch kit from the stealership.

yea mine only squeals when i am decelerating never other wise..Gonna look more into it today.

 

Almost sounds more like carrier bearing or a dry u-joint.

 

what amp are you using? How do you like the sub?

 

It was actually yesterday, but new (to me) shoes. 285/75/16 BFG AT with about 11/32 all around for $300!

 

Yea i think it is now too. I am pretty sure its coming from the rear of the truck now. And just to clarify, the carrier bearing is the bearing that is holding the drive shaft correct? Should i just re grease it and see what happens? Or replace it? How do i grease the U joints on the drive shaft??

Now that i think about it, it sounds a bit like the carrier bearing. Because under load its not going to be rattling around. But when you take the drive load off it would start rattling or squeeling.

Check the free play in it

 

But its only when the clutch is engaged..so wouldn't it still be under load?? When i roll just in neutral its quiet. And it seems to be getting less and less now..
