fun stuff coming soon! New battery, radiator and CV joints and axles. Added some Rancho RS5000 shocks.
i was excepting the 6th gen new nano, but not refurbed one that someone else broke and they think they fixed it.

thats like a recall on your car, they want to replace your vehicle you bought new, with a cheaper one, that someone wreaked...not a fair swap in my eyes

I did get my money's worth out of my 1st gen. Bought it used on ebay ($50), used it for a couple years, then the battery crapped out. Now I'm sending that in and getting a "newer" model at no charge. It's not really that bad of a deal, considering the item is more than 5 years old. Doesn't Apple have better reliability than most other products on the market? Ipod is the only thing I've owned.

so thats $199 a few years ago. Minus the wear and tear, minus the older technology, and now set a market price for your old 1st gen nano.

I think what they are giving us is worth more, and more capable, even if its a refurb.

You're right. But I still gotta say you have probably used the hell out of it right? I think it's a pretty cool thing that they are doing this. I mean I'm sure there is some underlying issue that we will never really know about like it's leaking some nuclear waste or something like that and we're all going to die or turn into zombies if we keep them. Even if we aren't getting the exact same model it's a nice gesture considering these are the 1st generation Nano's.

Still don't know why people would need one of these if they have an iphone. Or why they need the itouch if they have a nano, or iphone. The iphone does everything these other devices does right? And now the new touch has wifi??? Weird. Damn consumerism.

i hear what your saying nicnac seems kinda unfair. although on the flip side of the coin they are giving me a new nano with larger memory and more features so i'm happy.

i bought my first gen directly from apple the first day they where released they engraved it and all lol. my first gen never functioned properly really so mine has been in a drawer for years now.

replaced by newer model of the nano and shuffle. i'm actually glad its the smaller 6th gen model so it wount feel like a brick on my arm at the gym.

when i bought my first gen i went for the largest memory they offered it in. i hope they give me the 8 gig at least because over the years purchasing more and more music from the itunes store space is now a problem as well lol.

my nano is actually in really good condition, i never used the hell out of it, never abused it. didnt use it a hell of a lot either, except for the few scratches on the back, it still looks brand new, put a cover on it as soon as i took it out of the box. ive never had a problem with, but i also dont want it catching fire in my pocket either.

but they are replacing it with someones already used and broke nano.

i think mine is also the 1g, but i dont load it up with music, i think ive barely used and storage space, so yeah the upgrade is nice but i dont need it.

if they are going to replace it with a different version, they can atleast replace it with a new one, not be cheapasses about it, its freaking apple for cying out loud, money hungry :censored:

is it confirmed they are issuing refurb 6th gens? or is this something you are speculating? Even if you buy a new car, and keep it perfect, time and technology diminish its cost. The second you open the box (or drive it off the lot) the values tanks.

I am sure apple is losing a lot of money on this, but wants to be able to avoid the "big one" (law suit). Im not quite sure how a company issuing new technology for your ancient technology (FOR FREE) is them being money hungry. If they were charging us, sure .. but not even shipping. its TOTALLY FREE!!

Sounds like you are pretty happy with your current Nano, if i was you, i would just keep it, and use it until it dies.
I doubt you will start on fire, since it has been 5 years already.

i was reading where one guy in the UK got a new 1st gen at the very start of the replacements, some people are getting new, some are getting refurbs... so i really dont know now. but still its unethical to replace an item someone bought new for a used one.

true, but this is a new thing that started happening, they werent doing it new...im back to bedating if i want to keep it.

if they were sending out a new 6th gen i was gonna sell it to someone for less than the price of a new one and use that money to upgrade to something i actually want.

I use my 1st gen on my bike all the time, the only problem I've had is sometimes it doesn't shut off. So while I'm sitting at work for 8 hrs the ipod is dead in 4 hrs. My wife won it from her work about 5 yrs ago so I have no problem sending it in, I'll just have to reload all my music.

It's actually bizarre that somebody is replacing something this old for free. But... ehhh, why not.

Dam! That means I have to find the software to do that. I tried to plug it into my new laptop but it wouldn't work.

I'm sure it's much more cost effective to replace them than wait for the lawsuit. I would be the same way if it was my company.

    Quoted for truth.
I sent mine and the wife's in. We bought ours together over five years ago. It worked fine but both were getting short on battery life. I look at it this way, $200 each over 1826 days (five years with one leap day) I have more than realized a cost amortization.

Point 1. The thing is 5 years old.
Point 2. They are replacing these at their cost for shipping and labor.
Point 3. Try and find any other company, tech or otherwise, that will replace a 5 yr old product that is out of warrranty on their dime.
Point 4. It's optional. If you don't want or like it, then don't participate.
