Diff drop torque setting?

    One of my friends got me a 1" Total Chaos diff drop. It comes with a lock nut, but im not sure what to torque the nut to? Anyone know? The stock ones were easily 200 ft lbs.

    ARB bumper, warn 9.5 winch. carbon fiber hood. Leer top with thule racks and MOAB from thule. Electric fans, blue sea fuse block, Sony dvd Head unit, Xm tuner and HD tuner. New carpet and new racing seats. ( other half doesnt like them i think). Nwor springs and adjustable coil overs. Sky jacker rear shocks. Slot and drilled rotors. Engine Titanium ceramic coated headers, no cat, jba cat back. URD Rear Sensor Simulator. Leds all around and inside cab and HID H4 hi/lo beams.
    I looked in a manual couldnt find a torque value. If the bolts are grade 8 which they should be 200 ft lbs of torque shouldnt be a problem.

    yeah thats for second gens. im just about 100% sure diff drops are benifical for 1st gens. its only a 1 inch so my skid plate will still fit

    The design of the front diff assembly on 2nd gens is different enough to make the value of the diff drop of questionable value. It is the opposite deal for 1st gens.

    Yea what mike said. They are helpful to use..not a ton in reality usually but don't harm us. 2nd gens get issues tho.

    Haha now that i think of it..2nds have a lot of front end issues.

    Very old thread here guys but I'm a little confused and just want to verify if anyone else noticed this. I purchased a different drop from wheelers off road for my 97 4Runner. It's the same diff drop used for the first gen Tacoma as well. It says on their instructions on the website that the two long bolts should be torqued to 77 ft lb. Everywhere else I have looked people have been saying 101 foot pounds. I have torqued it to 80 already and have not driven anywhere. I called wheelers and the guy didn't really have an answer for me and said that no one else has called about that that he knows of. Thoughts? I appreciate any response/ advice.

    You'll be fine at 80. If your worried that it could somehow work its way loose. put some blue locktite on it.

    I had a heck of a time getting the factory bolts to let loose from the nuts. Barely had enough room to squeeze a 3/8 breaker bar on top to hold the nut while cranking on the bolts with my big breaker bar. Kinda bizarre because this thing has like no rust at all. Guess they've been on there quite some time. I opted to put a little antiseize instead and I'll just keep an eye on them. Thanks for the response man
