I installed the shorter GM bulbs and so far no problems.

Please someone correct me if I'm wrong, but don't the DTRL on our trucks use completely separate bulbs from the blinkers? In that case they wouldn't run at partial voltage, but would be either on or off.

The 2011 uses the turn signal bulb at full intensity, they no longer use the headlight at attenuated amperage. The older ones that use the headlights, the attenuation is accomplished through a sandstone resistor which reduces the current going to the bulb and cannot affect the filament since cars are DC not AC, so there is no frequency. Technically, alternators put out pulsating DC since it is impossible to generate pure DC. The bridge rectifiers convert the AC to DC for the cars systems. All alternators generate AC and cannot generate DC, physically impossible without the rectifiers.
