    Got my antennas tuned up and the radio peaked and tuned as well. The install was easy and not to hard the hardest part was drilling into the side of the cb and trying to get the hole to fit the screw in the side. other than that tight fit and no issues. I will chang out the radio one day and I will just put the tray back in or get another radio the same size. Looks like the Cobra 25 is about the same size. I wil stick with this radio for a while though. Got good range on my radio checks and its pretty clean system. Thanks for all the advice. I will post some pitures of the enitre setup as soon as i can get them off my phone.

    I just ordered a Uniden PC68 Elite modded by GI Joes CB Radios. Are those export radios a lot better than a Uniden or Cobra? Also, what other antenna mounting locations do you recommend other than putting one on the roof? I was thinking rear bumper, etc. I want something that can be removed, and won't mess with the paint job or require drilling holes through the bodywork. Thanks.

    Yes
    Export radios are just that, radios made overseas and exported to the US. They therefore do not need to meet FCC regulations and produce more than the maximum 4 watts. You are supposed to have an amateur radio license to use them, but many people use them with no issues. As far a antennas I would suggest a little Wilson. Easy setup, easy to tune, cheap, and you can remove it when not in use.

    side note: exported radios that are not type certified by the FCC are illegal to export into or sell or use in the US, even if you are licensed as a amature radio operator. doesnt mean you can find em on ebay, CL , or various CB forums:p

    If you are worried about the FCC chasing you down and slapping you with a fine for using a modified or "illegal" radio I would simply suggest buying a good Cobra 29 with a good quality power mic like an Astatic Road Devil or 636L. You need to make sure that you have your Antenna tuned after everything is installed. I have a few different radio setups and antenna options that i use. For my CB rig i actually like using Wilson antennas, specifically the Wilson 5000. It wasn't too terribly expensive and its pretty easy to tune. Mag mounts are fine if you dont mind the possibility of some slight scratches on the top of your truck.

    I typically use a 2m or 70cm radio on FM though. Much better audio quality but you do need a license to use those frequencies, so it can be an inconvenience if everyone in your group is not capable of using those Bands.

    Its really simple to get your Ham License though. So look in to it! it will open up other possibilities for you when it comes to Radio equipment and it can be a pretty fun hobby.

    I got my CB now I have some questions I'm looking at a firestik on ebay its the firestik 2 with tunable top just wanting to know if the tunable top is what I need or if I'm not going to tune it its not going to work? Its 20 bucks on eBay for the 5 foot black one and I see some of you are talking about these power boosters should I get one too? Don't know enough about this stuff but don't want to get left behind in mores ways then one
