Long story short. It was wet out, and a dog ran out in front of my truck. First instinct was to swerve. Ended up fish tailing into a ditch and taking out a sign :/

    Damn! What's the damage estimate?

Saw a silver 2nd gen lying on it's drivers side in the median on I-25 north of Cheyenne late last night. :spy:

Man bummer about the truck.. Did you miss the dog or did you still hit it?

I'm a dog lover, but I think unless it's MY dog, I'd run the bitch over.

    Yeah I'm alright.

Hitting the dog is easier said than done. If anything bigger than a squirrel runs out in front of me, my first instinct is to avoid it. It could have been a kid for all I know. It's hard to process that it's a dog and I should just run it over.

easier said than done. i've been in that situation before and even though you KNOW you are not supposed to swerve, you simply react and think about it later. in my case i actually swerved into the left lane to avoid a deer very late one night, had my whole family in the car too, could have been a head on but luckily no one was coming. if i had swerved right it would have been into the woods and hit a tree. i had to clean my shorts after that one and i try to anticipate these types of things now so all i do is brake and not swerve.

to the OP, i'm sorry about your truck, but it's just sheet metal and can be fixed. glad you are OK.

My nephews friend rolled his truck in the desert last week because he was avoiding a coyote (real one, not a smuggler) and I was trying to explain this to him. Its hard to avoid the instant reaction and its a little different on the road but in the desert I swerve for nothing! Pucker up and brace for impact
