Invisible Paint Protection Bra

Has anyone put this on their truck? Does it work to protect the paint or is it just a gimmick?

I see it all the time on ebay.

My friend put and adhesive clear bra on his vehicle. He liked it and it wore in well. Barely noticible.

I did save the paint from stone chips and bug splatters. Deeper/bigger stoned did penetrate past the clear adhesive and damaged the paint, but I'm sure less than would have it there wasn't the "clear bra".

 

3M makes a good product. The dealership was trying to sell it to me when I purchased my truck, but I didn't think it was necessary. Do some searching on 3M's website, they will probably have some info.

 

I recommend you make sure it is real 3M product.

I've seen lots of vehicles up here with the film that's turned real ugly looking. The sister had it done to her CR-V at the dealer and only 2 years later it is all discolored with a chalky-like look and not transparent anymore.
Could be from all the salt on the roads in winter?

Good to know... I was looking at the stuff a guy is selling on ebay. His rep looks good. But I think I will check 3m. It is a name that you can usually trust.

 

Several weeks after getting my Taco I ordered the 3M product from an RV dealer in the midwest, he had the best prices. A local detailer wanted over $700 to put it on, I paid less than $300 for the same product that also included an installation kit. Large RV's and semi's use it quite a bit. I'll admit it was a pain to put on, but once done it's worth every penny. Unless you're extremely patient I'd recommend letting a pro install it. Kind of like applying window tint film but a lot more difficult. In fact, the 3M website has installation videos so you can see what's involved. The kit covers the hood, front half of the front fenders, front of the bumper, and there's more available. If you'll take a look, this same stuff (or something just like it) is already on the truck from the factory on the front of the rear fender flares. We're going to replace my wife's Subaru Outback in the next year or two and whatever she gets (probably a Toyota Highlander) we're putting it on that vehicle too. The front paint of her Subie is so chipped and scratched from road debris it's downright UGLY! I've had this on my truck since April and since the color is Indigo Ink, it's quite obvious it's done it's job keeping the paint looking good. Not a single chip in the paint and my daily commute is 45 minutes, each way, of highway driving on I-81 and I-83. There's a huge amount of truck traffic on these two roads. Like my wife's car, I've seen other cars and trucks that look like someone blasted a load of rock salt from shotgun at the front of the vehicle. This is good stuff and worth it if you want to keep the paint looking good. As someone posted earlier, the big stuff will go through it but 99% otf the other road missles don't make it through to the paint. I recommend it highly!

 

I forgot to add that I'd first seen this product at a car show and they gave me a sample, it was a lot thicker than window film and the product brochure has a photo of someone trying to push a nail through it and it just strecthes without being punctured. It looks pretty strong. They had a sports car at the show with the film on it and you couldn't see it at first, you had to look closely. From about ten feet and further, you can't see it at all.

 

Ziebart offers it also, a little pricey for me, maybe in a few years when I have the truck repainted I'll consider it.

 

I've used it on my last frontier, my Tacoma, my wifes Lexus, and my Duc. The stuff works!

 

I installed it on on my Mazda from the front to the back, pretty much, and it is awesome. I dont worry about getting those little rock chips all over it and the paint looks as new as the day that I bought the car. I also installed it on my Truck, since it is BSP it shows everything.
