So for a few months I had a vibration in my truck that began to get worse and worse. I didn't know exactly what was causing it until I came across a thread about greasing the double cardan joint. I had never seen the grease zurk and was not aware it could be greased. Called a reputable drivetrain shop and the guy said some can be rebuilt some cannot. I took it off my truck and took it to him. He said it cannot be rebuilt and my only options are to buy a new from toyota or find a used one or he could order one and build it to be easily serviced. He quoted 600. Toyota wants over 900 and I can not service it. Can anyone offer any help? I have a 2000 Tacoma extended cab. 4x4 non trd with the 3.4L v6

well...first you have to find out if the double cardigan joint is even the problem. If there is no detectable play in the Double cardigan joints, they are probably fine. But I guess because you took it to a driveline shop that it is worn out? Take it to a different shop and see, as anything can be rebuilt if you have a tech that knows what he is doing.

It could also be the two other U-joints on the shaft, or the carrier bearing.

called them and took the rear half of it over to them. said the cv feels good but he wants me to bring the other half of the shaft and he spin it up on the balancing machine to see if he can detect any vibrations. so im going to start from there. he said my style can be rebuilt and he can do it. heavy duty powertrain in wilson told me yesterday that it can not be rebuilt. so im going to take the entire shaft to him let him spin it up but i still think the center bearing needs replacing.i had really bad vibrations then i learned it could be greased and the vibs almost stopped. at certain speeds it still vibs though we will see. thanks for the info though
