so im looking at getting a new radio for my runner.

what do you guys think of this
    http://www.crutchfield.com/p_500CDE122/Alpine-CDE-122.html?tp=5684

really the only reason i want to change the radio is so that i can have an aux input to plug my phone into to listen to music.

how hard is it to install this myself? or does anyone know a good place in corvallis

I like Alpine's. I've probably bought about 5 of them for all the different rigs I've owned.

Install is super easy if you buy from Crutchfield and get the wiring harness and dash kit. Follow the wiring diagram and solder (or twist) the wires together. Be cautious working on your dash. You'll be fine.

If you want to have it installed, I recommend Audiofiles on 9th street across from Chevron

2V preouts is crappy (ask me how i know), but if all you are trying to do is gain the input, then no worries. I'd be tempted to sell you mine so I could upgrade, but I think I want too much at $100

I have a love/hate. They do great with the controls, but it chafes me that so many of their models require aftermarket expansion units to get up to 4V preouts, or add crossovers, all of which SHOULD be standard for the price point.
I think Pioneer does a better job, but everything is blue :p I think my next unit is going to be Kenwood, which used to be more complex than landing on the moon, but they've gotten better now.

I would hesitate to do solder, as I think it would snap over time. If you twist, do both a twist and a solder, then heatshrink. It takes time, but is a clean, robust solution. Solder to increase the connection, heatshrink to avoid crossing wires. Really, inline auto splices are pretty much the way to go if you want a tradeoff between sturdiness and time.
