more careful maintenance than anything. Just remember you are going to need a ESC with a low voltage cutoff, to use LiPo batteries

No, 7.2 volts is 7.2 volts. To increase speed, you increase volts. Now your runtimes can increase by quite a bit (depending on mah). The best thing about li-po is there discharge rate, it's nice and linear, vs a ni-cad, ni-mh, whose dicharge has a bigger curve. You know how hot a ni-cad, ni-mh battery is for the first minute or so, then fades until the battery is dead. Li-po have almost the same rate of discharge from beginning to end. Another advantage of li-pos are there weight, much lighter, (from this aspect alone you may see faster speeds). Now sure, when you drop a new li-po in a model you've been running older tired out ni-cads, or ni-mhs in, there will be a increase in power/speed, but there would be as well with new ni-cads, ni-mhs.

also speed of the vehicle can depend on the pinion/spur gearing, as well as how many turns are in the motor (i.e. a 4.5T motor is a lot quicker than a 17.5T motor)

Kyosho, much better quality, plus there are aftermarket parts for it as well

EDIT: the Kyosho buggy is more of a 1/10 scale vehicle, it shares a lot of parts with the Ultima SC truck

you probably would only need the chassis, body mounts and a few odds and ends to convert it

Not true, a lipo cell has a nominal voltage of 3.7, so a 2 cell (2s) lipo has a nominal voltage of 7.4. The sub-c cells used to make NiCD and NiMH packs have a nominal voltage of 1.2, that is why you see 6 (7.2 volts),7 (8.4 volts), and sometimes even 8 (9.6 volts) cells in a pack. There is no such thing as a 7.2 volt lipo. Stepping up to a 3 cell (3s) lipo gives you a nominal voltage of 11.1. So yes a lipo, even a little 2s, will provide more power then a 7.2 NiCD or NiMH battery. And that is just nominal voltage, most lipo cells fully charged are more like 4.2 volts/cell, so a fully charged 2s lipo is really 8.4 volts or exactly equal to a 7 cell NiCD/NiMH pack. Yes all the other benefits you stated are true, but the fact is lipos are more powerful then NiCD and NiMH packs per cell.

    x2!

A fully charged NiMH will also have a higher voltage than what it's rated at. The 8.4v that came with my Slash is well over 10v when it's fresh off the charger, but ot quickly fades.

Nice thanks again!! Learned more in this thread about lipos then I have read in the last 24 hours on the web.

Exactly, and that is where a lipo's better discharge rate comes into play. If you ran a 2s lipo compared to your 7 cell NiMH, your truck would be faster initially with the NiMH, but within a few minutes the NiMH would drop below 8.4v, while the lipo would hold near that 8.4 volts almost the entire run time. So as your 7 cell NiMH pack keeps getting slower and slower, the lipo continues to provide similar performance to that first pull on the throttle. This is of course assuming similar MaH ratings.

Does your Slash have the Velineon brushless in it? If so you really need to try a 3s lipo in it. I run a Velineon on 3s in one of my modified SCX-10s and it is pretty crazy.

Finally opened the box for my SCX10 and lipos - I'm so stoked!

Unfortunately, that's as far as I've gotten...

Yeah, there's no comparison when it comes to lipo. My 2s 40c blows my NiMH out of the water in every way. Plus, you can find them cheaper than NiMH.

The two Gens Ace batteries I got from HobbyPartz.com seem like great quality so far. I have yet to actually use them though.
