I screwed up big time tonight :( Was headed to work from the new place I just got way out in the country.. (i'm a 911 dispatcher btw)... Yea hit the breaks in the middle of a turn like a MORON - roads are wet... rear end slides and I start to get it back but something happens (can't remember just remember feeling like wow that was close then f.....) I start going towards a drop off and have NO idea where it goes to so I make it go towards the tree/guard rail.. where I stop.. :( side of the truck hits.

Thankfully my boyfriend who is a deputy was behind me... He got the tow truck out there to pull me away from everything.. and told dispatch I was going to be late :(

I guess I came out lucky since I was able to drive it to work.. and I was only 25 min late lol. SO happy the tail lights only pop in and out!! It was hanging off but we just popped it right back in!

My back is starting to hurt along with my head. But otherwise i'm fine. DIdn't think i'd feel anything from side impact? I guess I probably was all tensed up since I KNEW it was coming :( All I could think of is how badly i want to cry since I only have liability. I can't keep her looking like this!!

Oh yea.. question was.. Can I just cut and weld that part of the bed or should I replace the entire bed? I know that wont just pull out..

Ouch :( So was it icy? Or just wet? That seems like a wicked spinout for just a damp road. Hate to see a good taco all beat up like that :(

Luckily it was only the bed! And you weren't hurt any worse! I'm guessing the pain is from the tensing up...cuz it doesn't look like you hit too hard and it was the rear.

The guard rail didn't hit your door? The first pic kinda looks like it did. Could be the angle and the lighting.

Wow glad you're ok. Look in your area on Craigslist to see if you can find bedsides from someone who put on glass. Any structural damage?

Yes guardrail hit the door.. but I should be able to pull the dent out and repaint where it scratched the crap out of it.

    Drives straight! Whoo!!

Apparently it's a horrible spot in the road where a lot of people wreck. The guy who lived there said he's had his mail box taken out so many times from wrecks he gave up and just got a PO box. And apparently a few years back that tree killed someone... Not sure if water just sits there or what? No one is surprised that's where I wrecked. Also cold as PISS outside and it started to snow just a bit ago. Probably didn't help much... And yes I was going over the speed limit.
BUT my MAIN screw up was hitting the damn breaks in the middle of a sharp turn on a wet road (shouldn't do it any time.. but.. yea). I know better. not sure what I was thinking???

I have my friend who's dad owns a salvage yard searching for a bed for me. Just not sure if it'll be cheaper to get entire bed or what? Although I'm sure if I can find one the same color it would be cheaper!! And I could switch it out. Just have to pay for the door then.

you can replace the sheet metal to the outside of the bed no problem, they are bolted on. the door can be an easy fixed as well by any body shop. all they will do is "re-skin" the door by taking off the old sheet metal and installing a new side on. and believe it not..you can find actual OEM sides cheap on line for under 300 bucks each..prolly cheaper then what a body shop would charge.

one of the reasons i have never, and will never, have "liability only" for my vehicle insurance. one little mistake and, well, you could be paying out the ying yang.

glad you are OK, though, that's the main thing. if you can find a bed in that color, you should be fine without hitting the wallet (or the purse, in your case) too bad. good luck.

Ok cool deal. I just hope he can color match the paint since it is a almost 7 year old truck. I'm insanely picky about paint.. even though this one did have rock chips.. and back bumper has a bit of rust. Guess i'll have him take care of that too while he has the paint...

    :(

I'll run around and get estimates monday. :(

And I think it's cheaper in the long run just doing liability. I mean I paid for full coverage for 12 years of my life and NEVER used it (well ok once when my ex hit a deer in my old mustang.) but even then I've paid the insurance companies more than enough to buy an entire new vehicle by now! Actually a few if you count the motorcycle full coverage on top of that! (I will never have only liability on a motorcycle)

It kinda depends on what your insurance rates are only a few of my cars are paid off so I only have that option on some of them one is a 2002 bmw m5 I got my I insurance quoted both ways and it wasn't much cheaper to do liability only there was about a 400 per year difference.

Glad you weren't on your bike :D
This time of year worries me when I ride, not so much
the weather down here, it's the people "celebrating"
    that I'm scared of.
All in all, you didn't come out too bad on the damages,
    good luck finding a bed.
Maybe time to do something like this

No VCS and crap breaks compaired to the ones I was use to on the STi ;) I did one hell of a sweet drift too! Sucks the tree and guard rail had to end it all.

I want to cry every time I look at my truck now :(

Odd thing is - the road I wrecked on was one my ex husband use to LOVE riding the motorcycles on. I hated it because cars always go over the yellow line and there are random gravel spots. I always feared i'd wreck on that road... almost got hit head on once when I was riding.
I am glad it was a wreck in the truck than on the bike!!!

And thanks for the TTORA link! I'll have to remember my log in for there.. was on there a looonggg time ago when I dated a guy with a tacoma. Man I wish I had those wheels I bought him for it...
