I used to be into RC pretty big. I started with a traxxas sportmaxx, put a front diff in it, 2 speed trans, basically made it a Tmaxx. Then the engine started to crap out so I put a Picco .26 in it. Then it started to get expensive. Both aftermarket servos, all new shocks, different A arms. I bought a 50s panel wagon chevy body for it and had it painted by a guy at the hobby shop, put composite beadlock wheels on it, and swamper bogger tires. Those are heavy and slowed it down, but they sure do look cool. Its been stuffed away in my storage, and now in my garage for about 3 years now. Ill try to get some pics taken and post them if I remember.

    You won't be disappointed. That's what I have :D

I posted a video a few pages back on how they outperform big name expensive batteries like Maxamps.

What I said was 7.2 volts is 7.2 volts, and it is. I never said a 6 cell mi-cad or ni-nh was the same as a two cell li-po. I don't care of the parent source type. I'm very aware that a 2 cell li-po is 7.4 volts nominal.

I just (hopefully) got my 5 year old little girl int rc too, I picked up a Losi eight 1/18th scale electric for her for Xmas I bought an extra body for it and am painting it with her favorite colors and airbrushing her name in purple pear now. She is gonna be so stoked that "Santa" made a custom truck just for her!

If its peaking at that high of a voltage, it's due to internal resistance, of your cells. Basically there shot, yes, they will still charge and run, but are well past there prime. And that discharge curve is what I was referring to in my first post.

I doubt it. I know plenty of people with 8.4v batts that are around the same voltage when they are fresh off the charger. I highly doubt that all of our batts are "shot". A lot of people on rc forums will tell you the same. Hell, I even made a thread about it (in another forum) about my voltage being that high because I thought my battery was going to explode or something, but everyone else told me it's normal and that they were getting the same volts.

Doesn't matter what you doubt, those cells are past there prime. Again, they will still charge and run fine, just not like they were new. If you watch/keep track of them they will continue to rise in peak voltage. Yes, it's normal. I've been racing electric RC models for over 25 years, this ain't my first rodeo.

So I guess my battery has been past its prime since I first bought it. Okay...

Isn't your slash brushless? You can get 5000mah lipos for around $20 from hobbyparts.com. Don't waste your money on nimh.

Yes you did, and then you also contradicted yourself in answering the question of whether lipos make more power. There is no 7.2 volt lipo to compare to a 7.2 volt Nimh, so the nearest comparable lipo does make more power then NiMH.

I'd keep saving. For $20 more, you can get something like this https://us-dc2-order.store.yahoo.ne...re_id=yhst-62196343123315&sectionId=ysco.cart.

Plus, that NiMH will take almost a whole day to charge with the stock charger, assuming that's what your using.

P.S. That battery will end up costing you $50 or more after tax and shipping. So it's really only a few more bucks for that lipo and charger.

I understand what your saying, do what your more comfortable with, but If you think about it, it's the same type of battery that's in your cellphone or laptop.

If if was bought as a prebuilt pack, yes. Those cells are the ones that test the very worst of the batch. And go into hobby grade packs. This prolly has changed as of late, cause none of the factory teams are buying all the cells and going through them, since li-pos have taken over the market.

After rereading my post, I still don't see what you claim I said.
Let me me put another way, a volt off a li-po pack, is the very same as one volt off of a ni-cad or ni-nh. Li-po volts are not stronger than any other volts, period.

So a battery makes higher voltage as it gets older? Everything I have read says that voltage will drop when a battery gets older, not rise.

Only batteries I have experiance with are Traxxas, Promatch and Duratrax. Not sure if amps has anything to do with it, but I charged them all all 5 amps and got around the same voltage. I noticed charging at higher amps gives me more of a punch, but less run time. Charging at lower amps gave me less punch but longer run times.
