    True story.

My friend owns a restaurant. Earilier this week, a guy calls in an order for his law office, to the tune of about $650 in food - trays of this, trays of that, etc. Pays for it all with an Amex card.

My friend delivers it all to his office on the appointed day. A little while later my friend gets a call from this guy, completely irate, because paper plates and cutlery were not delivered with the trays of food.

My friend says to the guy, hey, you didn't ask for any, if you had we would have included it! But OK, we'll be right back with all that stuff. Ten minutes later the guy gets his paper plates and forks, knives and spoons.

Fast forward to Friday, my friend gets a notice of dispute for the ENTIRE bill from Amex, all because the guy didn't get his paper plates and cutlery. Even disputes that he EVER got the plates and stuff at all! My friend is in complete shock!

Is it me, or does this guy deserve a special award for being a complete d-bag? Right before Christmas no less! Thoughts?

Well, the guy is wrong in disputing that. Your friend will have no problems with Amex, as he did in fact give his services. Your friend failed though. You give your clients what they need, IE. plates, cutlery and cups. None of those are expenses that you do not already factor in your profit margin, so your friend failed at providing them with what they needed, wether they asked for them or not. He probably lost a client that couldve been a regular and that spent plenty.

In any case, the client is crazy if he thinks Amex will be on his side on this one.

    Found the problem.

In all fairness, I am sure it sucks hind tit to be a lawyer. But I have yet to meet one who didn't treat me like a steaming pile of crap. I work in a service industry job and I honestly believe most lawyers think that's reason enough to treat me like crap.

There is a special place in hell for folks like him.

i work as wait staff in a 5 star restaurant at a country club during the summer and all of the members there are very well off (i.e. one member founded a very popular brand hot sauce) so i have to deal with people like the guy in the OP all the time. my advice to your friend is think of every single possible thing to take him even if they don't need it that way you are in and out and don't have to deal with them long.

but yes to answer your question the guy is a dick but your friend did mess up. he needs to be more prepared.

    Hmmmm....

-$650 worth of food...I woulda thought the guy buying might have already provided something a little better than paper plates. PLUS he didn't ask for any.

-Does this mean that every pizza delievery guy should be handing you plates along with your pizza?

Fuck that guy. If he wanted plates, he shoulda said something when he originally ordered.

No wonder I was about to blow my brains out working in Food Service. Seriously, every person in the world should be forced to work in food service for like 6 months, just so they know the kind of bullshit food service employees have to deal with.

I felt the same way about retail business especially around the holidays. People are in general shit heads for no reason at all. Not everyone but the vast majority. I think you can take the true measure of a person by how they treat people they do not have to be nice to. Obviously ass hat from this story is just that.

For the first question, with pizza you might not need to bring plates, but always napkins. All the pizza places around me do so. All other restaurants gives you plates and cutlery.

As for the last thing. Cuisine is what I studied, and I did plenty in the food business. Sorry, you are wrong.

    - As a side note, people in their jobs do not give a shit anymore. Giving plates in this instance would be going the extra mile perhaps, and honestly it is not a very big thing to do. I do not know why it is such an OMG big deal to do so, with food you already have a ridiculously high profit margin vs other business, the least you could do is rape your customers in a softer way by at least providing these things. I understand now why every pool business in my area has to slave away working and hate their jobs working 6 days a week, while I work 2 and a half days and make more than them. I treat my customers very well and go the extra mile and they certainly do the same for me. Like all the bonuses I go this year and all the chocolate from the ladies. Lol.
