I had an airbag light on my 05 that i fixed last summer. Have you jumped the terminals on the obd2 terminal to get the codes yet?

I had code 13 and 31. My problem was i had a bad crash detection sensor in the front bumper. When i took it off the connections were corroded. 85$ for a new one (i think) and the light has been off for month since.

the sg2 wont pick up the code you need an actual scanner with srs data cause i tried two different code readers and computers and then finally went back to my college shop and checked out their snap-on modis (gizztastic by the way) in order to pull my code

If you jump terminals 4 and 9 with a wire or paper clip or something. and turn the key to on you will notice a lot of lights flashing (abs, cruise ect). The airbag light will flash in a way to tell you the code. For example if the code is "13" it will flash once, pause, then flash three times in a row, then pause again. If their aren't any other codes it will just keep repeating.

Once you have your code go here. And scroll to the code and it will tell you what's wrong/ what to do to find out what is wrong.

My airbag warning light came on solid around 67,000 miles on my 2005 4DR 4WD V6. I changed my plugs (following the advice I found on this forum) about 3 months ago and after that my airbag light started coming on infrequently. As soon as the extended warranty ran out last month, the light stayed on. I also paid $507 to the local Toyota dealer to get it fixed. I just got my two front wheel bearings replaced (under the extended warranty) and I have had to replace other major parts that just stopped working. If Toyota knows Tacomas are having all these problems, why are they not fixing these things?? I have never had a Taco truck that gave me this much trouble and has cost me this much money to keep on the road.I don't dog my truck and keep my truck maintained. I have always had Toyotas but now I am thinking seriously about switching to GMC.

My airbag light just came on last night. 2007 4x4 AC, only 62k miles. I'm going to try to read the codes myself (never done it before) but seems so many people are having this issue that toyota should do something. Thanks to this forum, i will probably try the repair myself to save money. It's absurd they want $400 for this repair, it's like they are preying on the fact that it's a safety issue so they know people will pay for the fix. How does the clock spring go bad? It's not a wearable part?

Ok, so my SRS light is on. (Feel like an idiot saying this) When i was installing my CB radio i was checking wires with a test light and accidentally checked one of the SRS wires. Which I'm guessing grounded out the system. There is no broken wires or anything like that. To me it sounds like something just needs reset, like a computer or something. The local stealership told me that they had to run a whole new wiring harness for around a thousand dollars. On myairbags.com they reset airbag modules for fairly cheap. Does anybody know if this should fix it? If i do the paperclip method of reading the code it should tell me exactly whats wrong right? Thanks for any and all replies!

Another thought.... I was reading up on the paperclip DTC reading, and it states you can clear DTC codes as well, think this would work?

If all you did was ground the SRS wire I would attempt to reset the module yourself. I have sent my module to Myairbags.com and they do a fine job. I was recently in an accident and my bags worked flawlessly so I am speaking out of experience. But they remove hard errors from your module and if you have not been in an accident I would not suspect you have any hard errors. I am not sure how much you have read in these SRS Forums but one of the major downfalls to the 2nd gen Tacoma is the clock spring. When it fails your light turns on. I am in the process of sending my clock spring to myairbags.com with in a week or so to get it repaired since I have this issue. Just something else you might have to consider.

Anyways there are two ways to read DTC error codes. the obvious one is with an OBDII Scan tool with the appropriate software. This is not a typical option for most but if you have access to one and know how to use it then you are in good shape.

The other option is using a jumper (like a paper clip) to connect specific wires that will make the airbag light blink the error code.

Check out this link. (Note: The SST Wire or Special Service Tool Wire they mention on the first page is just a wire that can be plugged into the harness to connect the specified circuits. like a paper clip)

Follow the instruction on how to read your error code. Then go here to determine what the code means.

In that first link it also gives instructions on how to reset the module. I would actually suggest trying that first. If that doesn't work then I would begin trouble shooting.

Let me know if this is any help. I am learning as I go too so take whatever I say with a grain of salt because I am by no means an expert.

    Good Luck!

DETROIT — Toyota Motor Corp said on Wednesday it is recalling more than 681,000 cars and trucks in the U.S. market to address potential problems.
The Japanese automaker said it will recall about 495,000 Tacoma pickup trucks from model years 2005 to 2009 to replace a part in the steering wheel. It is also recalling about 70,500 Camry mid-sized cars and 116,000 Venza crossover vehicles from model years 2009 to 2011 to replace a stop lamp switch.
Toyota said it is not aware of any accidents or injuries in either case.
For the Tacoma, Toyota will replace the steering wheel spiral cable assembly because friction may occur over time involving that part, which may result in the driver's side airbag being deactivated and not deploying in an accident.
For the Camry and Venza, silicon grease during assembly may lead to increased electrical resistance that can cause the vehicle not to start or the shift lever not to move from the "park" position, Toyota said.
Both fixes will take about 30 minutes, the company said. Owners of the affected Tacomas will be notified in early April, while the others will be alerted as soon as Toyota has the necessary replacement parts.

My ex had an 07. Hers came on within a year and a half of having the truck. She had it fixed by the stealership for $500 and change. Mine came on about a year after hers and I kinda just shrugged it off. I am glad Toyota is acknowledging a major safety issue and a faulty part that seems to be failing in more than just the Taco.

I talked to one of the people at Toyota Customer Satisfaction last week about the Clock Spring cable recall. I had already gotten mine replaced at the dealer last fall for around $500 and now Toyota sends me a letter telling me there will be a future recall on this. So, I called them. The lady I talked to very patiently listened while I politely ragged on about the dog truck I had bought (this was not the first major repair I have had to do to my 05 truck with only 73,000 miles on it). I was polite but I think she knew I was very, very PO'd. When I asked her why something had not been done about this before, she gave me the extremely irritating line about "If nobody tells them about the problem, they can't fix it", even though as you guys have indicated, they have known about this for a few years. She said I would probably get my money back if I ever get the actual recall letter and then I take my truck back to the dealership and have them verify the recall was done (= more $$$$$$), and if I produced enough evidence that I was still breathing, and if I have documented proof that I had actually paid for the repair, and if I have proof that I had actually been born, and if I get proof that the truck in question truly is mine (why did they send me a letter if it is not my truck??) and if I send them a whole lot of other ridiculous-keep me busy paperwork (like my bank statement- really??).:mad:
    Suggestions anyone?????
