around 2k miles

hey guys my tacoma is almost a year old and it has a little over 2k miles on it. should i change my oil or not? i switched to mobile-1 synthetic @ around 600 miles and changed the filter as well. thanks for your input.

 

I run my mobile one and filter 7000 miles or 8 to 9 months, which ever comes first.

 

i'll probably change it out then. i've been waiting to test my fumoto drain valve as well.

 

Read your manual it will tell you for sure when it need to be done but I believe max is 7,500 mile/6 months for on road everyday style driving, no towing or off roading. I'll do mine every 5,000 just so it's easier to keep up with.

 

it's been a lot more than 6 months since i changed it but i only have around 2k miles on it. i'll be changing it out probably tomorrow.

Don't drive it much eh? At this rate you're only gonna have 6K when the warranty expires.

 

no i sure don't drive a lot. it's not my daily driver. my daily driver is a 2010 mazda3 with almost 48k miles on it.

 

The manual recommendations do not take into consideration synthetic oil use. The mileage for the oil changes in the manual are for mineral based oil (not fully synthetic).

would you reset the maintenance counter even if it's not flashing?

 

I do mine when the maint. light comes on the second time

 

so are you saying to just change the oil and don't worry about resseting it until the next time around?

 

While it's under warrenty change it per Toyota...5,000 or 6 months (whichever comes first) and if your changing it yourself keep records and receipts.

 

im saying reset it after you change it, then when it comes on the next time, reset it again, and when it comes on the second time after the last oil change, do the next oil change. So one change per two maint. lights. I am not recommending this. I am just saying this is what I do.
