I have a rattle in the dash right around where the passenger airbag is and I can't figure out what it is. I really don't want to pull the dash out. It sounds like a wire bouncing on something plastic every time I go over a bump in the road. Any ideas?

do you have anything loose laying around in your glovebox? if thats not it, you just might have to take out the glovebox and check around to maybe find something :notsure:

Have you tried looking behind the glove compartment?

So far what I've done, I found that the glove box shock was not on properly and rattling, I fixed that by removing it, the rattle was still there. I checked the glove box right away, thought it was my flashlight or Leatherman...not that. I removed the glove box and got my hand in as deep as it would go felt around for loose wires, I couldn't see anything and I found nothing. The rattle seems to be in between the airbag and the windshield vent and it is driving me insane! Any little bump I hit it rattles away. I really don't want to take it to a shop, I don't have the tools or mostly know how to take the dash off.

yep I got the same thing.. Not sure I thought it was the windshield wiper on the passenger side but later figured out it wasn't I have just learned to deal with it. I figure maybe its something near the fire wall making the noise. but mine has been doing it for 2 years.

There have been others with this same type of issue and it happened to me as well. It almost sounded like a speaker was blown. Mine went away in time though.

Come to think of it, I believe my sound was coming from a wire harness hitting some plastic behind the glove box and I just readjusted it and the sound went away.

The black plastic windshield cowl on the outside of the truck underneath the windshield wipers was the culprit on my truck. Would rattle every time I hit a bump, washboard surface, etc. I literally tore the passenger side dash apart trying to find the problem. Now I keep a folded up rage between the plastic cowl and the hood (place rag on the rubber weather striping with the hood open). When you close the hood the hood/rag combo keeps pressure on the cowl, keeping it from rattling. I tried everything without luck. Something between the hood/cowl to keep pressure on it works best.

I had this problem this morning in my 2013 DCSB TRD O.R. and it was driving me crazy. Sounded like a ticking under the passenger side dash whenever I'd hit any bump in the road. I ended up taking out the glove box and the black trim piece above the glove box and found the noise was coming from a small white box behind that black trim. If you wiggle the wireing harness that's plugged into it you can see that it moves back and forth hitting the plastic on each side of the white box and generates that tick. I just used a small piece of duct tape and put it along side the plug and the white box it's plugged into so it can't wiggle and problem solved.

There is a small motor aassociated with the heat/air conditioner that is likely the problem. I am looking into replacing it too.

Same rattling noise here for years, thought it was inside under the dash for sure! Yea there are some things that r a lil loose but wasn't the problem. I was banging on my hood nearest the cowl area and there was a rattle on the pass. side. I think the hinge is worn out, anyways as fortech above said " stuff a rag in there" BAM!!! F'N rattle gone!!! 20170530_193314.jpg

I have one, but it is coming from the driver's side. It sounds like more of a squeak than a rattle. It only happens when it is warm/hot outside and the truck has been out in the heat. That leads me to believe it is two bits of plastic rubbing against one another. The bits expand just enough in the heat that they touch, then they make a squeaking noise with every little vibration in the vehicle. I've pushed, pulled, and kicked everything I can think of. I'm really close to dropping it off at a shop and telling them to keep it for a weekend to try and fix.

I had the windshield replaced in my 2012 Tacoma 2wd 5-lug a couple of months back and now it has a rattle in the area where the center of the dash meets the windshield. I've scheduled Safelite to come back out tomorrow and pull the windshield back out to see if one of the dash clips wasn't clipped back correctly. I guess that if that doesn't take care of the problem I'll try the foam noodle idea. Unless you guys have any other suggestions???
