New truck lift kit question from new member

Just bought a 2012 Tacoma 4x4 and want to lift it by myself. I have the tools but not sure which lift kit to buy. Tuff Country, RevTec, Toytec???
What did you buy and do you think a novice could do it?? Also reading about
wear and tear on joints after a lift, is this something I need to fix?

The answers to your questions depend on a number of factors including the purpose of your lift, your budget, your driving/usage habits, etc. If you haven't already done so, I recommend you spend some time perusing the the Suspension Lift Info and Tacoma Lift FAQ/Guide Stickies in the Suspension forum. Both contain a wealth of information of various lift options.

When you're ready to buy, DSM, , and offer competitive pricing on great products from manufacturers like Bilstein and OME.

Budget is always on my mind, but would like to do the mods myself. Have always enjoyed working on my cars, but don't want to create problems for myself and or the warranty. Will be probably 70% on and 30% offroad. Budget is around 3K to fix up the newest addition. Here is my List and trying to stay under budget.

1. Tint windows
2. BAK F1 & BAK Box = Tailgate Lock
3. Lift, Wheels, & Tires?? DIY
4. WeatherTech Floormats when they come out.

Why toytec?
Don't get toytecs or OME get some Icon CO's, deaver springs, and some 2.0" shocks with resis.

I grew up in Midwest and go hunting up there, so mostly back woods, country roads that haven't been maintained, and quite a few fields with no road at all.

 

im thinking the OEM lift with deavers... but i need more to chime in. Im more of the "go fast" kinda off roading.

2.0 means the diameter of the shock body. resis mean they have an extra oil reservior on the shock. he was talking about something like this.

I just installed toytec lift this week and it went on quick and looks great. Got aligned perfectly without new UCAs. Spent about 2100 for Lift, Wheels and Tires... just to give you an idea.

 

Bon, amazing build, did you have to mod anything on your updated lift other that replace OEM?
