Brand new truck with issues.

Just thought about this, while hoosier was having his truck serviced, him and I did a little running on Monday. When we went to get his ride, we looked at a new 4X2 silver with black flares, one of the mountain jobs.
Of course the saleman offered us a deal on it, but I said (nicely) why would I drive this when I am driving that..........
In any case we check out the ride and when we were leaving I called hoosier back to check out the rear bumper, upon looking the bumper, it did not even align with the bed, stuck out maybe an inch past on the one side.

This got me (us) to thinking, with all the reading with issues on the trucks, not saying anyone is perfect. But do you think Toyota starting slacking in their Quality Control. Letting little things pass when they should of been fixed. Knocking on wood here, but I have had very few issues with my 05, and the majority of the ones I have had were fixed here in my garage.

Maybe it is just me and I should be in the duh...catagory. I understand some issues, crap happens, but when you see alignment issues in body parts.....um.

I am not gonna change trucks, but when the time comes going over it with a fine toothed comb will be the thought that comes to mind.

 

I am very happy with my 07 Tacoma. But I think the 1st Generation guys have a better built vehicle.

 

No problems with my '09 but there has been quality issues with Toyota the last few years.Check any Toyota or Lexus forum.
I had a '07 Camry that had quality issues.
Even the Toyota execs have said so and promised to get back to the great quality vehicles of the past.
The quest to be #1 over GM hurt quality.

 

I've seen that same issue on a couple other Tacomas around town. Looks like the rear bumper is shifted more to the passenger side of the truck. Scary...

One would hope somebody in the line of custody from factory to sales lot would go over the vehicles but apparently its lost its importance?!

 

I have 13k on my '08, it still shakes, I had the rugged trails returned under warrenty to BFG, my stearing wheel is cracked to hell (keep in mind i've had it since august of last year.. only 6 months and it had 12 on the ODO), my rear pass side door was extremely loose and had to be re-aligned from the lot... uh what else.

Yea, honestly I had less issues with Nissan. And my door handle litterlly fell off. That said, it's mostly all minor crap except the blatent drivetrain shaking issue.

Kinda wishing I got a WRX... I know diffrent game all together but damn...

Yes. This is my first Toyota and I can honestly say it has serious quality issues. I bought an '09 Double Cab coming off an '07 Z71. I change vehicle every 3 years, but I can say that "my" Toyota feels/sounds like its going to rattle to pieces.

My wife has even made a comment "why are you having to pull your glove box apart on a brand new vehicle".

I told her it was a Toyota feature.

 

Yea, with squeaking springs, ticking blower motor, ticking engine, shakey steering, skimpy clear coat on bumpers and fender flares,reving between shifts and not really moving, rattling sun visors,and more TSB's than you can shake a stick at I can honestly say that this will be my last Tacoma for a while. There not bad trucks but not what they used to be.

 

My 07 DC TRD Sports been my first car, and I've loved it. There's just so many things you can do with these trucks as far as mods and working on it. It's been a great first car and I've put alot of work and time into it, so I can't complain!

 

Did anyone ever think that maybe all the bumpers that you see that do not look strait may be because they have "bumped" into something? The dealers tend to stack them in pretty tight, hell when I picked mine up I had to move it because the sales dude did not know how to drive a stick. I do think my 97 was built to a better standard but everything was then. Apples to apples we still have the better truck and for all you guys who bitch about rattles and squeaks well that might be due to those trucks taking a beating out on the trails or from rough roads. I admit there are issues but overall my 07 is solid as hell.

 

My 08 is my 4th new Toyota, bought my 1st back in 1979 and because of my past 3 when it came time to get another truck I didn't bother even looking at anything else.

Will I do that next time?
Nope

My past 3 impressed me every single day right up to the day I last drove them, and although my 08 is okay, I can't remember ever using the word "okay" in a sentence when describing of my past Toyota's.

I also have read the words "that's normal" more times recently then ever in the past when I read replies on message boards concerning questions from new Toyota owners when asking about noises or other concerns they have with their new trucks.



That being said, I will always be a Toyota fan, no other truck will ever have so many after market parts available from so many manufactures that allow us to tweak our trucks into a part of us.
Hell I remember grinding down the bushings on a pair of Monroe shocks so they'd fit on my 79 because when they first came out nobody made any aftermarket shocks yet for that truck

 

My 07 is a tank. Build as solidly as my 91 corolla was. And that thing was a ROCK!

 

Do Nissan's, Dodges, Fords also have misaligned bumpers; or are their dealers not stacking them as tight?

I love my taco but have had several quality control issues in the only 2500 miles it has. Seems to have many vibrations--BTW, I baby this thing, never off road.

My 06 Camry had windshied weather stripping come loose within 1000 miles; and the airbag malfunction under 3000 miles. A few other minor issues with interior panel alignment.

The paint on both is bad, but surprisingly, the Taco's paint is worst.
That being said, I have confidence that the major components will be trouble free, I'll keep fingers and toes crossed.

I didn't look to much at other trucks. I've never had a Toyota, but did have a 2002 Ford F-250 7.3 diesel, a 2004 Dodge 1 ton dually w/diesel, and a 2005 Dodge 2500 w/Hemi. All bought brand new.

I was swayed by the Toyota hype. Turns out these trucks are really no better (or worse) than anything out there. The driveline vibes on my truck are the reason I will sell it as soon as I pay it down in a few more months. I have an engineering background and the Tacoma does not impress me. Is is an old design, and I fully expect the new Tacoma to a better engineered and built truck. I also agree that the Gen 1 trucks are the ones that gave Toyota the quality reputation.

The Tundra is no prize either, both the 6 cylinder Camry and 4X4 Tundra are on Consumer Reports <not recommended> list due to quality issues.

I've listed mine for 21K and haven't had a single call on it.
