Pioneer AVH-4300DVD?

Anyone with experience on this HU? Where and how much extra for the Nav?

 

I have this head unit, I love it. Great iPod / iPhone integration. I don't have the Nav but you can get it from Crutchfield. If you buy from Crutchfield you get the wire harness and dash kit free. I got the black dash kit and it looks tight.

 

I was wondering about using the iPhone nav. The only problem I see there is when you lose internet, then nav is lost as well. How long have you had the unit? Can you still see the screen using polarized sunglasses?


On Crutchfield, the Pioneer add-on Nav units are $360-$399. YIKES!!! I might as well get something with it built in already. Like the Alpine GB unit going on now. Amazon said its a $200 add-on but I could find it on their website.

 

Gf bought me this HU n I can say she sure knew what I wanted like stated above the iPod/iPhone is flawless, works great. I also got the wire harness n black dash kit looks really good. Install only took me bout 40 mins I connected harness to the receiver the night before n just had to pop out the stock n put the new one in.


Overall I'd recommend it!!
I'm curious as to how Sirius works with this unit. I'm tempted to buy the receiver but dk how ppl like it.

 

Have you used the Nav or imotion GPS on the iPhone connected to the HU? How's it work? Pandora? Steering wheel controls? Pics?

 

I haven't used any Navigation on it. I just really never have the use. Pandora works great, it brings up all your stations on the screen and you can pick using the touch screen. The 7" screen is nice compared to some of the smaller double din screens. I don't have the JBL steering wheel controls, but I don't think it's very easy / possible to integrate those into any head unit. I could be wrong, but I thought I read somewhere that it wasn't possible. I'll say if you don't use an iPhone / iPod in your truck, there are other units that may get you navigation, bluetooth connectivity for cheaper.

 

I installed the 6300bt with a nav add on in my grandpas truck. I did not like it. If you by pass the head unit the nav takes over and disables it. My grandpa also dose not like it. He has avic-z130bt in his car and likes that way more because you can "talk" to it to tell it where you want to go. Those 2 features are vary important to me. If the head unit is not bypassed then you have to be going <5mph to use any of the nav features and/or the barking break has to be pulled. If you want navigation get one that is built in. Just my 2 cents

 

I have that Deck and its fantastic. I didn't buy the nav because pionner nav systems have always been pretty shitty to me. Always like my Garmin, now I just use my cell phone for nav.

 

theres an app on the iphone that you can buy that uses the gps. Its called gps drive. Its $.99 and i think it works pretty well

 

Hey boys. Can you see the screen okay if you're wearing polarized sunglasses? On some screens, it becomes nearly impossible with polarized lenses.

Polarized glasses had zero effect on the screen. Saw it as clear as without the glasses.

 

I know someone with one of these or something similar, and I hated it. I thought the 'touch' part of the screen was too hard to press and did not like the way things were laid out. Just my .02

 

I just picked one for these up. Anyone have any experence with the USB and playing video?

I will get mine installed this weekend. And post up my findings and pictures...

 

Mine sucks. I can honestly say I wish I had not bought this HU. Its missing lots of features that my older cheaper JVC had. Junk. Now I have to convert my entire video library to DVIX just so they will work on this POS.

I have the version before this one (in another car) the 4200. Basically the same unit with just a few less features. Found it to be a very good unit. Stellar iPod control with connection on the back so I can put the iPod in the glove box instead of having cables everywhere.

Navigation unit I use a Garmin. Looked into nav with various head units and came to the conclusion that could get getter and cheaper by just using a Garmin.

A few things to keep in mind with this unit. They are excellent, but you need to disconnect the ground on the vehicle if you are going to do any mucking with the RCA's. Look up PICO fuse to see what I'm on about. The units have a tiny fuse that will blow if you start swapping around RCAs with everything on. Not a tough fix, but a word to the wise.

The 4300 may have changed screen from the 4200 as my wife just got a new set of perscription polorized lenses and she can't make out things on the screen. She's always lifting up her glasses to see anything.

Hooking in a rear view camera is super simple and works well.

DVD playback is very nice. You have color controls etc. if you want to adjust them.

Nice to have a built in eq.

Solid unit. Thinking of picking up another for the Tacoma we just bought.
