Dual monitor setup (help)

I would like to set my wifey up with a dual monitor setup (for work)

I have NO IDEA where to begin....

PLease advise

 

You need to buy a video card with outputs for at least 2 monitors.

 

You need to first have a video card that supports dual monitors. Look at the back to see, you will either see 2 vga(Blue), dvi(White), and newer ones HDMI.

Next is to connect 2 monitors, then configure the operating system to mirror or extend your desktop.

I don't know if the Nvidia cards are any better but I had a few issues with the ATI card I have when I updated to Win7. I had to wait until an updated driver and config software came out but my card is a couple of years old.

 

just 1 additional thing .. your video card may not always 2 of the same output .. it may have 1 DVI and 1 VGA .. this will work as well.

 

thats what i have is a vga and dvi

 

i have 1 blue and 1 white....

 

Does she have a laptop or a desktop?

Docking station?

Most laptops already have another monitor connection. If so, simply connect another monitor.

Then it's a matter of expanding your desktop to the other monitor, also simple.

Assuming it's a Windows PC/Laptop, you simply right click on the desktop (after connecting monitor).
Go to Settings tab.
Windows should have detected the other monitor, once powered on. You then select click the box (2) for the new monitor, then check the box for: "Extend my windows desktop onto this monitor"

You can then drag #2 monitor to the right or left of #1 monitor, this determines which way your mouse moves off the screen to get to #2 monitor.

 

Here's a shot of mine. I have a dvi and vga on my laptop's dock. Basically you need 2 of the ones I listed and compatible monitors

 

Truth. Currently viewing with 3 monitors at work.

 

Two monitors is sweet. When I am away from my office i miss it.

You can probably try by attaching the extra monitor to see if it works.
Then work your budget and parts needed to give multi view

 

Why worry about what video card? Just use a usb graphics adapter..

this graphics card here looks hard to beat for the money and it supports dual displays

 

Orrrr, do what I could no longer avoid....get a Mac.

Better still, get a 27" iMac and you won't need two monitors!

I've been working in I.T. since 1984 and I have to say, reluctantly, this is THE sweetest computer I have ever owned or worked with.

EVERYTHING, is contained in the monitor, DVD, HD, CPU and it's maybe 1.5" thick.
