Yes, I've driven one before. I'm about 5 '10 and 150lbs so I'll fit for sure. I've considered the LS1 swap if I find a rolling chassis with NO drivetrain at all for stupid cheap. It's something I'd think about if the rest of the car was cheap enough to warrant it. I do like the uniqueness of the rotary though. Such a brilliant idea.

Nothing beats a classic for the experience. If you're looking for a car that has top performance, then yeah, your list of new cars fits better.

The cool thing about classics is that the can catch all of your senses at once. Look great, combination of old-school V8 sound and feel; they even have a certain smell to them (mostly vinyl and fuel). If the car you're looking for will have the primary purpose of putting smiles on your face, it's hard to beat a classic muscle car.

They are a pain to maintain though, trust me. You're always wrenching.

I love the new Mustang 5.0. Talk about value, and I think Ford is really doing things the right way now. I still think a 'Vette fits your wishes, and the M3 has always been a dream car. I know Sti and EVO have great performance, but I just can't get over how boy-racer they look to me. A great sports car should have a classy, timeless look to it.

or get the best of both worlds, like i did, go buy a xrunner. this thing will hang a curve like crazy, and there are alot of aftermarket boost applications for it.

Not one you'd want to buy. A buddy of mine was in a dealership recently and saw an older one for sale. He asked the guy how much and he said, "$40k will make it move."

When he called and told me I asked him where the bricks of solid crack were hidden inside the car.

^Holy shnikeys! And yes the 1M is an animal I'd like to be able to afford.

And the Supra isn't even on my radar anymore. I wanted one for a long time but a Turbo IS300 would be even better in my opinion.

The Rx-7 FD3s has always been my dream car, Ive just never found the one I wanted. Almost paid upwards of $30k for one with 5k miles a few years ago, but chickened/reasoned out and purchased the red 2008 Evo X. I now have a 2011 EVO X and love it but considering the way you describe your tacoma as the utilitarian vehicle and that you want a sports car, I cant recommend it. It IS my utilitarian vehicle and its definitely fast and wizardly, but its not a true sports car. You sit upright, its four doors & its as tall as a minivan. Now sure, if you are wanting to modify something, your money spent on gains here is extremely efficient. The 2010 Rx8 R3 is my second rx8 and I choose it over the Evo and it was $27000. It will outhandle most cars mentioned.
I sold the Red Evo last year with 36k miles on it for $26000 btw, so both of these cars are real close to what youre requesting, and considering what youve mentioned so far, we seem to have similar perspectives.

I got one of these, if your looking for fun and speed. you won't be able to get into the tens cheaper than with a 4th gen.

The car is very very stock like if 11s are fast enough.
