    Here's the story:

I was playing ball a couple nights ago with a couple buddies of mine and was playing really good defense on a kid. He drove to the lane past me and i blocked him from behind. Then he came down the lane and i sorta ripped the ball out of his hands (like a jump ball) and took off going the other direction. The kid (22 years old) started getting mad because he really couldn't do anything so he then called a foul and said i had a hold of his arm and had been rapping him the entire game. Well its a pick up game, so it goes both ways. There isn't a ref calling the game so its going to be a little ruff then normal but rapping him, i was no where close (Especially the two times he got mad about). Anyway, The kid began to try and push off evertime to try to get open and i kept denying him the ball. As one shot went up, he tried to block me out and just held ahold of me because he was mad. So i grabbed ahold of him and sorta slung him off of me so i could go for the ball. After that happen we both fell into the mat behind the goal and the kid tries to cheap shot me and throws a punch, which caught me in the side of the cheek bone.
I had no idea this was coming because i was just playing hard nose ball and no trash talking was even involved. I'm 22 years old and not the type to fight (especially over a pickup game) but the punch was highly uncalled for and i then had 3 boys holding me and the other boy back so me getting even wasn't coming easy, and him meeting me outside the gym aftward was not happing either because he wouldn't come out alone.

So long story short, it has resulted in a black eye. And the next time i see this kid, i'm going to make sure he has to hold a ice pack on his face just as long as i did. What do you all think? Age 20+ responses please.

Suck it up, and walk away, there are some people that can not handle it. Do not risk getting in trouble over some idiot!

I agree also, getting in even trouble would be at risk. The punches thrown was definitly cheap shot with my back turned away and letting this guy just walk freely and do it to someone else is a hard thing to think about.

I don't understand why there are always fight in the basketball courts when you go to the gym! Your not gonna get scouted so don't play such rough d and if you can't tone it down then don't play with strangers.

this^^ I've seen plenty of people like this in pickup games. It isn't worth it. This kid doesn't know how to deal with that kind of intensity and obviously can't control his emotions.

I know right? I have grown up playing basketball my entire life. I have basically quit playing because everytime you go into any rec or ymca facility, they're always someone wanting to pick a fight like Coach Calipari is recruiting them. I mean its pathetic.

You know the responses you're looking for right?

Game gets intense man. So the chump escalated beyond what was called for in the heat of the moment. You carry that around with you, looking for payback, well, that's escalating to a whole 'nuther level -- kind that might get you the payback you're looking for - or might get your ass in a whole bunch of trouble.

You already know he's going to turn down an invite to a mano 'a mano - he did it already. So you go and administer a beat down on an unwilling participant - well, that's the kinda thing that can land your ass in jail. Not worth it.

I wouldn't worry with it. It's a waste of your time. Let someone else kick his ass so you don't get into any trouble. Fighting...IMO...is childish. Don't let a child get the best of your temper. Hope it all works out for you!

You will show more honor and and earn more respect from your friends by not smacking him.
