1: what is the real difference between stock lights on 2011 vs the projector lights other than the rings and makeup around it?

3: Does it really scatter the light like an hid in the stock housing?

2: I want Hid's, but I know it's bad in stock housing so I wanna do it the right way but that's further down the line which leads me to my question. What is the best and brightest non hid bulb for my stockers?

 

1. the cutoff in the projector lense is what keeps light pointed down out of people's eyes.

2. Put HIDs in fog housings and point them down a bunch. PIAA, SS Ultras & one other brand are about as good as halogens get for headlights.

3. Probably not nearly as bad as Halogen housings or as bad as the light purists commenting in HID threads here want you to think but probably somewhat. Have halogens in my projectors.

 

HID's in the projectors you're talking about aren't good either, those ebay lights have projectors that are for halogen bulbs not HID's. Doing it right would involve a retrofit with actual HID projectors.

Don't have tons of options outside of HID. Silverstar or similar will be a whiter light than stock.

And that's why I would never never never do such a dastardly deed and just run the punk ass SS ultras ...............that and I don't want all my lighting dependent on ballasts. Ballast warranties don't make vision better at night until you can get a replacement but another H7 bulb is in my garage and takes a minute to replace once there. Fogs are optional and you don't get tickets for a burnt out fog light that isn't even on, headlights are another matter.

 

I got the fogs and was thinking on converting those over to Hid's but need the money 1st

i'm assuming your referring to the different "gens" of ebay projectors if thats what you mean they are hideous dude your stock headlights are better by far.

if you want some really nice lights for pretty cheap pick up a set of mini H1s on the group buy or get a set form the other member who is selling them on here a whole set up bulbs projectors and ballast of a much higher quality than that ebay shit are going to run you at the most 200 dollars.

the rest is on you maybe another 50 for materials some jb weld 3m butyl rubber window weld and paint if your wanting to pain the housings then just do it yourself. your lights will fucking destroy the ebay projectors lol literally blot them out.

there are pictures of the cut off lying around somewhere on tw for some of the aftermarket ebay projectors and to me they look horrible but, i'm also kind of a snob when it comes to this shit so who knows maybe you will like them but, most likely not.

search for the cut off shots of them and link them or post them to this thread then i will send a pic from a typical retrofit and you will see a difference my projectors go about 6 lanes across at night and are extremely intense.

 

I didn't want to mess with the HID route so I went with PIAA xtreme white bulbs. Light output is great. It's very white compared to the yellowish stock bulbs. There's no blue output in light but looking at the lights head on there's a blue tint. Overall very happy.

Also went with Nokya yellow for the fogs.

Not sure what the parts actually cost however its fairly labor intensive to do a retrofit not something you'd finish in a couple hours. As with anything people are going to actually want to get money for the time spent and not just for the cost of parts. Plus when people are selling retrofitted headlights you have to factor in the cost of the headlight assembly itself as well.

 

Being whiter is their main difference. Not really supposed to be much brighter, they are the same wattage afterall.

i have retrofitted lights that ran me just over 1200 dollars. i have also done sets that cost arond 200 250 my current set up is in the middle and imo the best performance bang for the buck they are wicked bright.

there happens to be group buy's and another member rymc maybe that is selling the H1 minis for some crazy deal like 90 a pair or something if you are going to use your existing housings then all you need is the projectors ballast harness and bulbs parts and materials should not cross the 250 300 barrier and thats worse case scenario.

this is for mini H1's running trs parts and 35 watt ballast 4300k bulbs and your going to have an extremely nice bi-xenon projector set-up for little to no real money. the first time you fire them up it will seem like a steal.

i do however recommend that you have some extra cash laying around incase the worst happens and you need to pick up a set of housings to run in the meantime or to replace the first set you tried to retrofit. it is a custom project and requires your full attention bud but, if you give it your best and follow veits instructions for sealing everything back up then add additional silicon around the lens neatly and precisely things should be all good brother.

basically there is nothing i can write that has not been said a million times before.

xenon bulbs do not belong in a halogen reflector bowl period the light scatter is horrendous.

same can be said for the fog lights. what they lack in power they make up for with no sort of shield at all its just the bulb floating in front of the reflector bowl.

their really isn't much of an excuse anymore to run hids this way. a very solid and well performing kit can be bought brand new from trs for under 250 usd add another 50 bucks for materials and you have a very respectable set-up one that also does not blind other motorist on the road.

a good projector will also focus all the light and make the most of it instead of letting it scatter all to hell .
