top plate spacer question

im doing a lift this weekend as long as all the goodies get here by than.

5100's with 885's with top plate spacer. my question is where do i put the spacers. do you put the spacer on the assembly of the shock before it get bolted in ? any pictures would be helpful

Sorry for the fuzzy picture. See the three bolts (left side of pic) on the top ring above the coil? It would go on top of the ring with the bolts going through it, then get installed.

How big of a spacer are you talking about? You will get twice the thickness of the spacer in lift (1/4" = 1/2" & 1/2" = 1")

Yea just set the 5100 at .85. That's what I did.

 

i got the this kit. says the spacers will give 3/4 of an inch more lift. Will it be to much with the 885's ? im keeping the 5100s at 0 and will be installing UCA so the height isn't a problem. just want to make sure they are safe to run with that setup

 

just reading and researching, since im going to be putting in the control arms i figure id try to get a full 3in of lift. and from what i have read that setup with top spacers will do that. and i just ended up ordering those because they were in a pair

 

You can get the 1/4" spacers which provide 1/2" of total lift .

The 885's on their own lifted my DCLB 4x4 2 1/2"

 

Seems like most report about 2-1/2" with 885's and 5100's at 0.0
If it was mine I would probably add a 1/4" spacer to the driver's side (anti Taco Lean) and then take a look at it.

If you can live with around 2-1/2" your half shaft angles will be better and your CV's, bearings and boots will be happier.

 

alright i already ordered the others if i were to put them in will i have any problems ? just curious.
i can always return them and try to pick up the 1/4in plates at a local shop

 

hey thanks for the info. if i stay with 2 1/2 do i really NEED the UCA ? if not i cant sell them and put the cash toward some tires

 

Singular.
It only takes one on the driver's side to clean up Taco Lean.


Edit:
Taco Lean is where battery, driver and fuel tank combine to cause a list to the left side.
I believe that Toyota's R-L handed springs address this.
Aftermarket stuff requires spacers or threaded adjustment to compensate.

 

Well , you will be over 3" of lift .

 

Not if you are using them for lifting purposes

 

You're on the border.
The only way to be certain is to lift it and see if your alignment shop can get it set to spec.
He'll probably be shy on caster and you won't know for sure until you drive it.
If it wanders or bump-steers you will have to go to an aftermarket UCA.

I did 885 with 5100 set at .85 and did not do new UCAs my alignment is off tho because if it. My Camber is 0 toe is 0 and my Caster which should be above 2 is at 0 :/
So I will be ordering new UCA in a month or two.

 

hmm i think stick with the shocks and springs and maybe pull it put the spacers in another time

I would get UCA's and do it all at once , in fact I did

 

screw it lol control arms are getting installed with the shocks and springs! not putting in the spacers and thats final!
hopefully my AAL gets here by sat.
