    That's pretty much how I do it .

    First I remove the door from the jamb by unscrewing the hinges from the jamb side ( leaving the hinge on the door )

    I check the hinge side cripple stud for plumb , shim the stud at the hinge locations as needed , bring the jamb in , shoot a temporary 15ga finish nail through the hinge gains to hold the door .

    Pre drill ( through the hinge gain in the rounded corners furthest from the door ) for (2) 2 1/2" x #8 per hinge , run the screws , doublecheck for plumb .

    Re attach the door , shim the latch side by eyeballing the margin at the top and latch side of the door .

    When it is right , I shoot a 15ga finish nail through the jamb , behind where the door will be closed at the top and bottom of the jamb , and through the latch gain .

    Finally , I pre drill and run (2) 2 1/2 x #8 screws through the latch gain into the latch side cripple stud ( these go closest to the centre of the jamb )

    If needed , I add toe screws ( usually 3 x #7 finish screws ) through the jamb edge where they will be covered by the casing later

    Pretty much the same steps for me, only thing I do differently is most times we build our own jambs so I screw in to the latch side behind the door stop. Do the same for the pre hung doors too since they only put 3 staples in the door stop
