2wd lo mod

Well after months of searching and talking to members that have performed this mod like tacosupreme. I finally did it. I tried the way that tacosupreme suggested but I couldn't get it to work right. Kept getting the 4x4 and 4lo light blinking so after a few hours looking at the diagram I came up with this. See the attached single switch diagram. Please do this at your own risk!!! Good Luck!!

What would be the advantage of this? Not trying to bash; just curious.

 

Well mostly if you move around heavy trailers you can take advantage of the lower gearing. Some have said that they back up steep hills with trailers and need lo for that but are on pavement and don't want to use 4lo since it's hard on the 4wd when turning on pavement.

 

I thought since I haven't seen a indepth diagram I would post one up. Not everyone will need this. It's just out there for the ones who do.

 

Cool. I can see where it would come in handy on trailers and stuff. I was't thinking about using it on dry pavement.

Now to determine if this is compatable with locker anytime mod. Used TacoSupreme's instructions for that one.

 

I don't see why it wouldn't be an issue. It is only telling the 4wd ecu that the front is engauged when it's not. Should work just fine.

 

Nice write up...2lo is a very useful tool off roading (busted CV's or the like) and on road...

 

Why not just shift your transmission into low gear?

There is a huge difference in the gear ratios. I use 4low all the time backing my 7000lb woodchipper up driveways and across lawns(F550). Majority of Tacoma owners won't find the need though, it's a towing thing.

 

Should help out a lot at the boat ramp.

 

I def can use this mod when I pull my TT. There's been a few times where I'd have to use 4-lo, to back is up a hill, then switch back to 2wd to turn it, and then back and forth. folks with trailers know what I'm talking about.

The #1 situation for me would be pulling my boat out.
It's doable in Hi, just nicer in Lo on some steep, craggy ramps.

 

Hehehe.....we're talkin' a deeper gearset. Low Range.
I think it's 2-3/4 x deeper than the High Range you speak of.

Ok don't laugh at the switches. I'm going to end up changing them for some carling switches down the road. The two rocker switches are what controls the 2lo operation. I flipped mine over so normal operation is up and 2lo is down.

Nice stuff there Alan. I'm gonna be waitin' on 2Lo until I get a crawlbox under this thing.

 

Yeah that button is hideous. It was all that I had and I was trying to save some $. It will be replaced soon for sure.
