Diamondback .380

Got a diamond back 380 for Christmas. It's my first cc pistol and I've read alot of online reviews saying its ammo sensitive. I've put close to 50 rounds threw it with FTF and FTE occurring alot. I was using cheap ammo and forums online say that could be culprit. Anyone own one? If so what ammo do you use? Any FTE or FTF happening to you?

If you've read that it's picky with ammo, you used cheap ammo, and had a lot of ftf/fte I would try better ammo and see the results you get. If you have problems with better ammo, I would check in with the people you bought it from.

 

Thanks for the worst response ever. I kind of planned on using better ammo next time. the question wasn't what should I do?it was does anyone else own one and experience same problems?

 

Ya buy a cheap gun, shoot a lousy 50 rounds of cheap ammo and are an asshat to the only person to respond. I'm sure ya won't like this response either. Put another 300 rounds through it or so to break it in and get back to us if anyone will listen.

 

Run some good ammo through it (Winchester white box) and see how it does after about 300 rounds. After that try some hollow points. If it doesn't work flawlessly, take it to a gunsmith or downgrade it to a fun gun and get something reliable for cc.

I don't know much about the diamonback, but if it's a $100 gun or a $10,000 gun, don't bet your life with a finicky piece.

I don't mean to derail this thread, but if it does turn out to be unreliable, go get a glock or Springfield xd. They are extremely reliable and priced reasonably.

I do not own a DB380 but i work for a dealer that his sold quite a few of them. The good thing is that they are made in Cocoa Fl, so if there is a defect you can take it there and not have to ship it back. The first series (za serial numbers) db380 had problems. The current zc & zd serial number series have had updates and are running much better. The small 380 all can be a little ammo sensitive. This is even more the case during the first 200 rounds. I have no idea what your experience with handguns is so please dont take anything i say wrong. I suggest that you field strip the pistol and give it a good cleaning. This removes the factory lube which is normally more biased to rust prevention than lubrication. Re-lube liberally with a good gunoil like CLP or Rem-oil. Dont drown it but use more than you would normally. Get a box or two of a premium fmj like speer or federal. Winchester white box/USA is not very good for this as it is weaker and very dirty. Go back to the range and try again. When you shoot focus on your grip. It must be as firm as possible. Any wiggle or movement in your grip is bleeding off energy that is needed to cycle the pistol. Lock your elbows also. It should run better as you get thru those first few rounds and springs start to loosen up and the action smooths out. If it still chokes i would have someone else try it to rule out the shooter. Once it loosens up you will be able to shoot the cheaper ammo thru it. For what its worth i dont exspect any of the mini 380's to be the kind of pistol you can shoot 100's of rounds at a wack and not have a few hiccups. If your problems continue call diamondback. I know a problem with a new firearm can be very frustrating but if you call them try not to take it out on the person that answers the phone. Just explain the problem and ask them to help you and i am sure they will bend over backwards to make you happy.

Thanks for responses my apologize for asshat response to first guys post. Anytime I ever post something on here I get dicks who comment or people who try being dicks but fail to even answer question. I assumed you were doing that so I was a asshat.

 

I've read that winchester white box works good in them just haven't had chance to try yet. That's why I was curious if anyone else had one and experienced or corrected issues thanks for response

 

Yea My brother said untill I've put 300-500 rounds through it don't sell it or shelf it. . Like I said I was just curious if anyone else owns one and how well it's performed for them. Thank you for response though.

 

Thanks for response sir. By no means am I a expert shooter so I could have some effect but my moms boyfriend encountered same problems and he's a x-armed forces so hopefully not just me. I'll definetly give your advise a shot. Haha get it

 

Here is why I posted what I posted. This is not a gun forum, you had 24 hours with no response, and the odds of someone having the same gun on here are slim.

In your first post, you answered your own question when you said that you've read people have problems with cheap ammo. That's why I suggested that you try better ammo, since you've read the gun is picky.

I'm sorry you thought I was being a dick, not my intention. The Internet is a funny place. I was telling you what I thought you should do, but you don't have to take my advice.

Understand it's not a gun forum that's why it's in guns section. And only reason I bumped after 24hrs was after that long its so far down on recents that no one would see. By bumping it's back at top im in hopes someone will see who owns one or has experience with them will see.
And in first post I didn't answer my own question. I provided as much info as I could to my situation then asked if others experienced same issue. Dosent sound like I answered my question to me. Again sorry I took post wrong way.

Just looked at it again and still don't think I answered own question

 

Also make sure it's not one of the clips. I always get extra clips when I buy a new toy and have gotten bad ones. If after 300 plus rounds it still ftf, check that its not one specific clip giving you the problem. Mark the bottom of the clip and when it jams if it's always the same clip, fix it or chuck it.

 

Yea I have 2 and 1 did seam to perform better.
