Want to do Satoshi!

I want to do a satoshi, or grillcraft mod because I got a set of Hella Driving Lights for christmas, and I want to mount them behind my grill, but where can I buy the mess inserts? With hardware.

I don't want to buy a fully done grill, because I can not afford that. If the mesh insert is too expensive I will just find my own mesh and figure out a way to attach it somehow.

 

hmm... never thought about ziptie squares. Would they hold to metal mesh?

I used 3' threaded rod cut into many 1 1/2" pieces, epoxyed to grill and bolted down to mesh. Got the idea from another member on here. I will post pics if I can find.

Go through the "how to" Sotoshi threads, take your time with the fiberglass and bondo, sand well and your efforts will be rewarded with a great looking Satoshi grille.

I got my material from a local metal shop in town, it was scrap thu had sitting around and didn't charge me anything, cut it to shape and had it powder coated for 30 bucks. As far as the zip tie squares go make sure you peel off the sticky shit OnThe bottom and rough up the plastic then glue or epoxy them on. Good luck, it's a fun project

 

Okay so I ordered some M1 mesh from Homertaco (thanks!) but now I am looking for the toyota emblem that some people have mounted. I know its an old 80's FJ emblem, and I have a link for one online, but I'm looking to see if anyone is selling one first.

Anyone?

 

I got my emblem off an old 4runner at a junkyard, paid about 2 dollars for it, then sanded it down and bolted her on!

How do I reach my hood latch?
Are people cutting small spaces in the mesh that I just can't see in pictures?

 

oh wow... That was a dumb moment. I was thinking that you had to reach into the grill to reach the latch.... not right under the hood. that was my bad.

At the fire station I work at, I do rig checks on our aid unit all the time and I am used to reaching in through the grill to pop it up, not right under the hood. I feel stupid now

If I can do the Satoshi, anyone can. I bought my grille from customercargrills.com and just had to trim a little. Once you start, there is no stopping so just get in your mind it is getting done. I used the adhesive squares and zip tied it. I had to repair a few after a year but these seem to hold pretty well. I get a ton of comments about the grille. People are amazed that I did it myself, mostly because it looks so good. I chose not to put an emblem in there and it still looks good.

 

Where can I buy those zip tie squares I keep seeing?

 

Home depot or lowes, they are tough to find, I found mine In a Home improvement store called menards in the electrical section. Glue them suckers on your grill with some epoxy tho!

Okay cool I will look there first. I have some Hella 500's that I'll be mounting behind the mesh (after the 55 watt HID retro) and some amber strobes, so I'm excited to get this all going. Just waiting on mesh!
