2k lb winch for $50, will it do anything?

So i can get a 2000 pound winch for $50, will it do ANYTHING other than break? Would this be better than nothing or better than a come-along?

 

dont waste ur money you will overload it for sure doing anything with any truck....and its very dangerous.......get a heavy come along or save for a good winch

 

you can pull out ATVs and dirt bikes

 

it won't do a thing other than pull a sled into the back of your truck if that. If you're thinking you can use it for recovery (other than an ATV) it will burn up the motor and you'll still be stuck.

 

okay, i figured as much but thought i might as well check into it. thanks guys. Whats a decent minimum size for a recovery winch?

 

I see most guys with 12,000lbs it seems. I don't know much about them..hope someone here can help better.

8k for trucks/suv's is minimum......and my buddy has broke several 2k winches on 4wheelers too....i personally wont be putting less then a 9.5k on my truck after i get my bumper on...

 

okay yeah i was planning on a 9k at some point but for $50 more i'll just get the 12k i guess

 

You need a winch at least 1 1/2 times the vehicle weight. I personally have a 8000lbs winch on mine and so far it hasn't let me down.

 

It'll pull your truck along as long as it isn't stuck and the tranny is in neutral.

For "typical" recovery purposes, it's useless.

For these trucks, 8000 and up winches are the neighborhood you want to be in. No sense in going above 10,000. You'll probably rip your bumper off the truck before you get it to move at that force.

 

I have a 1500 Lbs winch on my car trailer that will pull a pretty heavy F-150 up onto the trailer. A 2000 lbs winch will supprise alot of you guys if you started playing with one. Remember if you use a snatch block it doubles pulling force to 4000lbs. I would prefer the 2000lbs winch over a regular come along any day. If I were in the market for one on my truck and money was an issue, I would go check out the winches at your local harbor freight and look at the more heavy duty winches.

 

How stuck?

You can *push* a stuck truck free if it's just barely stuck enough.

If it's up to the windows in owl shit mud, that's another story.

The point is, it depends. Could it free you from light stucks? Probably. Would I want to rely on it? No.

 

hmm so a 12,000 with a snatch would be 24,000 pounds? bitchin, i could save time driving winding mountain trails and just pull myself straight up a cliff
